  • This Show Is Magical

Greatest hockey podcast anywhere. Colby’s hockey knowledge is unmatched and his life partner Jonny is a professional interpreter for animals. What these two have been able to accomplish together is truly miraculous.

  • Less Politics Please

Show is tough to listen to when Colby won’t stop talking about politics. Lots of petulant whining from him on a regular basis as well. Stick to hockey! I’d rate much higher and resubscribe if Johnny Lazarus got a new cohost. He does a great job overall!

  • Best Morning Hockey Show Ever

If the odd couple hosted a hockey show it would be Jonny Lazarus and Colby Cohen. They have a great amount of chemistry with great hockey takes. Colby played in the NHL & knows everyone in the game. Laz is a reporter and a former college hockey player. Hard pressed to find a better more comprehensive or opinionated hockey show. Nightly recommend.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

John Chayka: Con Artist, or Saviour? | Morning Cuppa Hockey
Q: What was your initial takeaway about being in the building for game one in Minnesota vs Colorado?
Montano suggests it was a strong performance with clear five-on-five dominance but notes the series will require adjustments as teams adapt to tempo and matchup dynamics.
Tony DeAngelo Opens & Round Two Begins
Q: What changed for Vegas this season that allowed them to become elite?
A combination of a well-executed expansion strategy, stable management, and a roster built to fit a championship mentality. The organization prioritized depth, versatility, and strong coaching, which translated into consistent performance and a long playoff run.
Tony DeAngelo Opens & Round Two Begins
Q: Tony, how do you beat the Carolina Hurricanes, especially without Tippett?
It's about keeping pucks in the offensive zone, extending shifts, and making teams defend while you create chances. Philly would need to weather the Hurricanes' relentless forecheck and find a way to hold onto the puck down low, then generate offense from in-tight plays and controlled possessions.
Life on Long Island: Tony DeAngelo talks New York Islanders & Playoffs Landscape | Morning Cuppa Hockey
Q: How do you assess Carolina's style compared to the Flyers, and what would Philadelphia need to do to compete?
The hosts and Tony discuss Carolina's depth, speed, and puck management as a challenge, while suggesting Philadelphia needs to hold onto the puck more, execute smarter plays in the neutral zone, and leverage offensive support when Tip is out.
Life on Long Island: Tony DeAngelo talks New York Islanders & Playoffs Landscape | Morning Cuppa Hockey
Q: Why did the Montreal-Tampa Bay series look so lopsided in the seventh game, and how do you explain that shift?
Tony highlights how one game can swing despite prior balance, with Montreal weathering pressure, getting timely goals, and Tampa lacking the same finish; the conversation stresses the unpredictability and momentum swings integral to seven-game series.
