  • Best Morning Hockey Show Ever

If the odd couple hosted a hockey show it would be Jonny Lazarus and Colby Cohen. They have a great amount of chemistry with great hockey takes. Colby played in the NHL & knows everyone in the game. Laz is a reporter and a former college hockey player. Hard pressed to find a better more comprehensive or opinionated hockey show. Nightly recommend.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Conversation With Michael Russo
Q: What was the reaction in the meetings when Eric Tulski spoke up on behalf of NHL players?
He was described as calm and measured, willing to voice his concerns in a way that showed support for players while not escalating into a shouting match, highlighting his confidence as a young GM.
World Cup & Playoff Race ft. Jeff Marek & James van Riemsdyk
Q: What are your thoughts on the World Cup of Hockey hosting decisions and the use of best-on-best in the off years?
The hosts acknowledge the tension between preserving the NHL's core product and feeding the international hockey appetite, with arguments that a biennial or rotating approach could balance novelty with fan engagement, while acknowledging the risk of overexposure.
GM Meetings & Hutson Debuts ft. Michael Russo & Joe Beninati
Q: What happened at the GM Meetings regarding headshots and Rule 48?
Eric Tulsky and the league discussed headshots and how to interpret Rule 48, with the sense that the standard is evolving and may differ from simplistic assumptions about unavoidable contact, though Bettman pushed back in a way that suggested the league is mindful of media narratives and the realities of enforcement.
Conversation With James van Riemsdyk Part 7
Q: When you were the younger player coming up, did you feel pressure to defer to veterans, and how does that dynamic affect younger guys now?
There's always a balance: communicate and execute with your linemates while also respecting the veteran presence, and nowadays, teams emphasize two-way communication to establish chemistry rather than one player dominating the ice.
Conversation With James van Riemsdyk Part 7
Q: We want to know where you prefer shots from the point—on the ice or at the hip?
Hip shots give you the option to tip the puck down or up, creating uncertainty for the goalie who has to guess and react to a tip that can either go past a stick or off a skate, which makes the angle harder to read.
