  • The best

Best hockey pod out there. Thoughtful commentary and questions, great guests and marek vs wysh always is great. If you’re looking for the same energy as spittin chiclets this ain’t it but is a nice alternative with some hockey history thrown in as well

  • Audio Quality Issues

The audio is not always up to par. Specifically, guest interviews can sound like someone on their phone driving through a tunnel. It’s understandable to have phone interviews but need to clean up the sound mix or encourage guests to find a better location.

  • Jeff is loose

Jeff is free to wax poetic on the topic he knows best. With guest spots by Greg and Burkey the pod is always insightful and asked the question of where are we, where did we come from, and where is this sport going? Plus pickles…

  • Marek is intolerable

I thought once he was fired from sportsnet for a good reason. He wouldn’t be talking hockey anymore. Yet here he is, much better pods out there. Move on

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Playoff Race Heats Up ft. Shayna Goldman
Q: Shayna, your thoughts on the media pressure in Toronto and whether more coverage helps the Leafs or hurts players at the margins?
Shayna argues that growing the game inevitably brings more scrutiny, but players should be able to handle it; the key is responsible, respectful coverage that informs without tearing players down, and leveraging fan engagement to grow the audience.
On the Sheet: Hart Levine Provides a Deadline 101 Tutorial
Q: Hart, is there one team whose cap situation you think is on the road to an Armageddon?
Hart notes teams with lots of young players needing big deals soon (e.g., San Jose, Anaheim, Chicago, Minnesota) as potential long-term risk.
On the Sheet: Hart Levine Provides a Deadline 101 Tutorial
Q: Greg, Hart, can you get into the... Here's something that I want to get out there in a hockey 101 way. Can you explain the actual cap space the teams have at the deadline vis-a-vis the accruement of money and do it in a two-minute sound bite?
Hart explains prorating, projected versus current cap space, and how cap space interacts with deadline moves so listeners can understand what fits into a two-minute explanation.
On the Sheet: Brian Burke on Managing a Trade Deadline, What Next for the Oilers, Kiefer Sherwood's Deal, and more
Q: What was Burke's typical trade deadline routine and communication setup?
He described having key scouts and assistants in the room, multiple TVs with ongoing information, and a routine of giving a one-word answer to James Duffy on national TV as a lighthearted tradition, while emphasizing steady, information-driven decision making.
On the Sheet: David Pagnotta with the Latest Around the NHL Two Days From the Trade Deadline
Q: Simon Nemec's availability has been discussed; how likely is he to be moved and what kind of package could New Jersey be looking for to include him?
Nemec remains a highly valued asset for New Jersey, with teams eyeing him as a cornerstone piece who can contribute offensively while being controllable on an extended term; the likelihood of movement depends on the right offer that includes not just Nemec but complementary assets, and the Devils would want a package that fits their need to add offensive punch without sacrificing long-term control.
