  • Faith and giving

Comes voluntarily not through lies, receipt and enforcement through the same methods, including forcing people to live on the street. That does not demonstrate faith, what it demonstrates is religion.

Our Ultimate Treasure: Intentional Giving
Q: My question today is I know that you can contribute to a retirement account up until April 15 to count for last year's taxes. Can I do a Roth conversion and still have it count for 2025?
A Roth conversion is counted in the year the conversion happens and is not bound by the April 15 deadline for previous-year contributions; conversions are taxed in the calendar year of the action.
Preparing the Next Steward
Q: Kristi asks whether to pay off a new home mortgage or invest the money given current rates and prospects.
Rob explains that at a 7% hypothetical investment return, keeping the mortgage and investing the money could outperform the debt, but if liquidity and peace of mind are priorities, paying off the mortgage can be sensible, especially as retirement approaches and debt burden would be reduced.
Common Misconceptions about Faith-Based Investing with Brian Mumbert
Q: Do faith-based investment practices really create impact if shares are traded on the secondary market and someone else owns the stock?
Shareholders have a voice through proxy voting and engagement with companies; faithful stewardship can align investments with convictions while still participating in the financial success of the company, rather than simply passively holding unscreened assets.
Common Misconceptions about Faith-Based Investing with Brian Mumbert
Q: Is faith-based investing largely symbolic, a mere statement, or can it be a serious, evidence-based approach to building a portfolio?
Values-based screening does not replace sound investment analysis; fundamentals, risks, and long-term opportunities are still considered, and many faith-based funds can deliver competitive returns over time, combining prudent stewardship with disciplined investing.
Common Misconceptions about Faith-Based Investing with Brian Mumbert
Q: Faith-based investing has been around for decades, but many still wonder, does aligning your investments with your values mean sacrificing performance or diversification?
Faith-based funds are managed similarly to traditional funds with professional research and portfolio management, and their expense ratios can be comparable; screening does not necessarily limit diversification and many funds have produced competitive returns, challenging the notion that values alignment requires sacrificing performance.
