  • We needed this

Even though I’ve been in Luxembourg nearly 10 years, this is the podcast I wished I’d had when I first arrived.

This first episode is incredibly powerful and speaks to the challenges a new mom (or dad) to town may face, especially as a trailing spouse and/or someone woefully underemployed and struggling to figure out which way is up in a whole new culture.

Can’t wait for the next episodes!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Carmen & Cutting out Sugar, 01/05/2026
Q: What practical tips would you give someone starting this journey today?
Start with a protein-packed breakfast, stock up on fruit- or date-based desserts, batch-cook your own desserts, and allow a balanced treat occasionally; avoid extreme restrictions and maintain flexibility in social situations like dining out.
Carmen & Cutting out Sugar, 01/05/2026
Q: What have you found most effective for long-term maintenance after losing weight?
Consistency with high-protein breakfasts, baking own desserts, and adopting no-industrial-sugar rules; calorie counting isn't necessary, and the emphasis is on sustainable habits and portion awareness rather than severe restrictions.
Carmen & Cutting out Sugar, 01/05/2026
Q: What role do your kids and family meals play in this lifestyle?
Meals at home mostly stay traditional and meat-based, while I focus on healthier options for myself when eating with the family; I still allow kids to enjoy sweets in balance, and I model healthier choices through what I prepare and what I order when dining out.
Carmen & Cutting out Sugar, 01/05/2026
Q: How did you start the journey, and what were your first steps?
I began by prioritizing a high-protein breakfast and cutting out added sugars, then gradually replaced desserts with protein-rich or fruit-based options, and learned to bake desserts with dates to satisfy cravings without sugar spikes.
Carmen & Cutting out Sugar, 01/05/2026
Q: What was your motivation to go sugar-free, and is it doctor-led or more about personal goals?
My motivation came from gestational diabetes and the glucose goddess method, combined with wanting to improve health for myself and my family, not vanity. It started during pregnancy and continued afterward due to observed benefits in blood sugar, energy, and weight management.
