But, the host is constantly laughing or giggling at serious matters, which is incongruent with the reality of most of the listeners.

  • Perfect blend of science & compassion!

I’m in the middle of my own mindbody medicine recovery journey and I was delighted to come across Sean’s podcast, now considering it a key part of my healing. Every single time I listen to an episode, I am uplifted; whether it’s because I learn more about the neuroscience of mindbody medicine, or feel seen, heard, and understood because of Sean’s compassion and empathy, or I just simply laugh! -- or some combination of these things. This podcast is an incredible resource! Thank you, Sean!

  • Honest, informative and entertaining

I have only recently discovered Sean and now will be a regular listener. I love his relaxed style, just vulnerability of what he shares about himself but most of all his informed insight into TMS in general. As a practicing physio, I particularly liked his episode on why physical therapy didn’t work. Spot on!

Keep up the great work. I really appreciate what podcasters like you do! Thank you!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

S5 E11 | How To Trust Yourself, with Anna Holtzman, LMHC
Q: What are the three tools you use to work with fear of visibility?
The three tools are graded exposure, co-regulation with someone who makes you feel safe, and dialoguing with fear. Graded exposure helps gradually increase visibility; co-regulation provides a safe bridge for taking the next step; dialoguing with fear treats fear as a compassionate companion, allowing it to be acknowledged and soothed, which reduces its grip on behavior.
S5 E11 | How To Trust Yourself, with Anna Holtzman, LMHC
Q: Talk to us about how mind-body recovery relates to visibility and taking up space.
Anna explains that as people recover, expanding their inner world also expands their outer presence, which brings a tension between the desire to express and the fear that it isn't safe. The work involves learning to be around supportive people, recognizing body signals, and gradually increasing visibility through practical steps like journaling, exposure, and co-regulation. She emphasizes that symptoms can persist during growth, and safety to express is built over time through community and practice.
S5 E7 | Neuroscience is Cracking the Mystery of Chronic Pain, with Nathaniel Frank, PhD
Q: What are the three E's of healing discussed in the book?
The three E's are education (neuroscience understanding), emotional expression (acknowledging and expressing emotions), and engagement (re-engagement in joyful movement and social activities) that collectively support neuroplastic recovery.
S5 E7 | Neuroscience is Cracking the Mystery of Chronic Pain, with Nathaniel Frank, PhD
Q: Where can listeners find your work and how can they engage with your upcoming book?
Listeners are directed to Nathaniel Frank's website, nathanielfrank.com, for articles, research references, and book information; he mentions a forthcoming Mayo Clinic Press book and provides contact through the site.
S5 E7 | Neuroscience is Cracking the Mystery of Chronic Pain, with Nathaniel Frank, PhD
Q: Tell us about your own journey with chronic pain and how it led you to this work.
Nathaniel shares his early experiences with back and wrist pain during graduate school, the realization that pain can have mind-body roots, his encounter with John Sarno and his circle, and how these experiences propelled him to study and write about neuroplastic recovery, blending personal story with scientific context.
