  • Best info for Canadians!

Frugal Flyer provides the BEST miles and points news for Canadians. They offer concise and easy to understand information about the points and miles game in Canada without exploiting their position like some past points and miles “experts” have (think POT). Both their pod and articles have been extremely helpful to me and they are the first and most trusted resource I seek out when looking for info. Keep it up!

Ep 045 - Miles & Points News + Listener Questions
Q: What are practical tips for travellers from Western Canada regarding flights to Europe or repositioning domestically?
Experts suggest positioning to the West Coast (Seattle/ Vancouver area) to access better award space and shorter routes to Europe, leveraging RBC Air Travel Redemption schedules and Scene+ for domestic moves, while highlighting variability in regional availability and the value of flexible routing over direct but more expensive options.
Ep 045 - Miles & Points News + Listener Questions
Q: How does RBC cross-border banking fit into travel planning and paying off US cards?
They discuss Wise as a preferred currency transfer service for avoiding high bank FX fees, with Norbert's Gambit mentioned as a niche option; overall, cross-border banking is considered useful but not central unless you frequently move large sums or pay US cards from a Canadian account.
Ep 045 - Miles & Points News + Listener Questions
Q: What would you recommend as the best Canadian travel credit card for a balance of benefits and annual fees?
The panel generally recommends starting with transferable points and a strong co-brand option, like RBC Avion or Amex MR, combined with a kitchen-sink card such as the Amex Platinum for wide credits and lounge access, while noting that the best setup depends on whether your main airline is Air Canada, Porter, or WestJet and on your ability to leverage the card bonuses and lounge/credit perks.
Ep 043 - Miles & Points News + Listener Questions
Q: Which airline program is more valuable for Asia travel, British Airways Avios or Cathay Pacific Asia Miles?
Both have strengths, but Avios is favored for its broader transfer partners and flexibility, especially for accessing Japan Airlines and other partners; Cathay Pacific Asia Miles can be better for Cathay's own availability, but generally Avios offers more diverse options.
Ep 040 - Miles & Points News + Listener Questions
Q: Is there a centralized place to track transfer bonuses and end dates?
Yes. We maintain a Miles and Points transfer tool on frugalflyer.ca and a semi-monthly newsletter that highlights current transfer bonuses at the bottom, with a radio button to filter for current bonuses.
