  • Best info for Canadians!

Frugal Flyer provides the BEST miles and points news for Canadians. They offer concise and easy to understand information about the points and miles game in Canada without exploiting their position like some past points and miles “experts” have (think POT). Both their pod and articles have been extremely helpful to me and they are the first and most trusted resource I seek out when looking for info. Keep it up!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep 038 – Miles & Points News + Listener Questions
Q: What are the key Aeroplan changes and how should Canadians respond?
The hosts explain that Aeroplan's new award chart increases many distance bands and highlights the North America–Pacific sector as particularly affected, recommending booking before June 1 and exploring alternative programs like Flying Blue or Flying Blue transfers to offset potential costs.
Ep 036 - Miles & Points News + Listener Questions
Q: Stewart asks for advice on which frequent flyer program status to chase for an Iberia/Aer Lingus trip booked with Avios and Avion points.
Most programs don't grant status credit for award redemptions; focus on proximity to your status goals via earning miles through flights, and consider Atmos Rewards for partial status credit on some redemptions; in many cases, you won't earn status from award flights, so prioritize discounted or affordable routes and consider earning status through programs that offer mileage-earning on paid tickets.
Ep 036 - Miles & Points News + Listener Questions
Q: Catherine asks about the Marriott Bonvoy business card earning points into the same account and the tax implications, plus best practices for mixing business and personal expenses.
Points earned on business cards can be pooled with personal points in the same Marriott Bonvoy account for value; there are no current tax implications on rebates or points in Canada, but track which card earned the points for bookkeeping, and many hosts suggest using the points normally rather than restricting usage; mixing personal expenses on business cards is common but check issuer terms, as long as you keep clear records it's generally fine.
Ep 030 - Miles & Points News + Listener Questions
Q: Is there an equivalent card to the Chase Sapphire Reserve in Canada?
No, the Canadian market lacks a direct equivalent to the CSR, making it compelling to keep the CSR for lounge access.
Ep 030 - Miles & Points News + Listener Questions
Q: What's changing about the BMO credit card benefits?
BMO has pulled all shelf fuel discount benefits but added Instacart and a monthly credit.
