This is the top gardening podcast in my opinion. Few gardening podcasts delve into the day to day problems we face in our gardens and how to fix them. I’ve learned so much from this podcast and am looking forward to seeing my garden thrive!

  • Amazing information, iffy format.

It seams in recent weeks there has been far more adds, all for my pillow, and other very conservative company’s and events. I really do not want any sort of politics mixed in with my gardening. I that being said, if you are in the mid south, this is the place to stay current with gardening, the current weather and the coloration between the two.

That di a excellent job answering call in and text in questions. I just wish it was produced by a different organization, or had different sponsors.

Mid South Gardening 7_26_2025
Q: What are the risks and benefits of using eggshells in compost or under tomato plants for calcium?
Eggshells provide calcium carbonate, but they break down very slowly and must be ground very fine to have any meaningful absorption; otherwise they offer little real calcium for plants and can sit in the soil for years.
Mid South Gardening 7_19_2025
Q: Is there any fertilizer that feeds the plant directly?
The discussion emphasizes that fertilizing primarily replenishes nutrients in the soil, not feeding the plant directly, and highlights the importance of soil health.
Mid South Gardening Oct 11 2025 Hour 1
Q: What's the best time to plant fall bedding plants like pansies?
The hosts explain that there is a narrow window in the fall for planting pansies, with availability shrinking as the season progresses and temperatures change, so gardeners should act sooner rather than later.
Mid South Gardening 10_04_2025
Q: What is the best approach for fall bedding plant prep?
Focus on soil prep, choose appropriate varieties like pansies/panolas, and ensure proper watering and root development through root stimulators and good potting soil, with attention to space and post-plant care.
Mid South Gardening 11_22_2025
Q: Caller asks about pruning blueberries and what age old canes to remove for better yield; is cutting back old growth to the ground advisable?
Old growth should be removed; cut out oldest canes to the ground, but avoid shearing the plant as it will reduce next year's bloom; typically two to three-year-old canes provide most of the fruit, and you should renew by removing oldest growth annually.
