  • Mouth noises!

The content of the Ideal Parent podcast was OK, but George kept making mouth and swallowing noises, which can be pretty triggering to people with childhood sexual abuse histories…. Nothing personal against him, but I just can’t listen to that. Or choose not to.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

In Conversation: Mikey Noechel
Q: How do you link modern psychology with ancient Buddhist teachings in practical terms?
By showing that core insights about mind, emotion, and regulation in Buddhism align with contemporary ideas on attachment, trauma, and neurobiology, and by translating them into actionable practices like loving-kindness and mindful replacement of afflictive thoughts.
In Conversation: Julianna Raye (Unified Mindfulness)
Q: How should one approach self-generated emotions within this framework—turn toward or turn away, and when to use loving-kindness?
If equanimity with SOMATIC experience is not possible, one can move toward loving-kindness; the practice involves choosing between focusing on the body or the mind to disrupt the emotional loop and using loving-kindness to regulate the experience when needed.
In Conversation: Julianna Raye (Unified Mindfulness)
Q: What are the practical pathways in UM for beginners versus teachers-in-training?
UM offers a learner track with free resources and live calls, plus a Foundations course for teachers, then Pathways for becoming a coach and Compass to become a UM teacher, all anchored by core principles rather than overwhelmed by tradition.
In Conversation: Julianna Raye (Unified Mindfulness)
Q: What is Unified Mindfulness and how has it evolved into a system for teaching meditation?
Unified Mindfulness was designed to dimensionally analyze the contemplative field, connecting practices into a coherent framework centered on concentration, clarity, and equanimity, and evolving from technique-based to a holistic process of training.
Attachment Styles in Times of Crisis
Q: Hey, George, would it be safe to say then that secure and dismissive types don't generally come to meditation practice?
The speaker suggests there is variation along a bell curve and that while some groups may engage differently, many participants still explore meditation to some extent, with more emphasis on those who are drawn to understanding and managing attachment and emotion.
