Hey Mike! Some people listen to music in the car on the way to work. Instead, I listen to your podcast on the way to my studio every day! Listening to MYM before I start my day fills me with inspiration, excitement, and validation on what I sometimes feel unsure about as a full time producer. Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Dave McNair: Reinventing His Career, Again and Again
Q: What is your mindset when starting a new project?
I start by listening to the song in order to understand its emotional core, then decide whether I should work fast with a broad approach or slow down to sculpt details, often choosing to focus on the vocal first to guide the rest of the mix.
Jason Perry: Making Records Without Musical Theory
Q: So you got your start in a band, what was that transition from artist to producer like?
He explains that he always loved production, learned from other producers, and gradually moved into producing, focusing on simplifying processes and prioritizing the artist's emotion and connection over gear.
Mike Schuppan: Why Great Engineers Don't Chase Perfection
Q: What role does collaboration with producers play in your process?
Collaboration is essential; producers provide vision while the engineer supports and also contributes creative ideas, with openness to outside creativity being a key driver of great records.
Mike Schuppan: Why Great Engineers Don't Chase Perfection
Q: How do you decide when a mix is done?
Seek external input, trust your own taste and the artist's feedback, and consider practical delivery constraints; if the artist is happy and there's no obvious issue, you move on.
Mike Schuppan: Why Great Engineers Don't Chase Perfection
Q: How do you approach starting a new tracking or mixing session?
Start from a demo and compare production changes, take notes, and set up new tracks alongside the existing ones to reference past tones and parts; think about the mix from the start and adjust as you go.
