Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

J Callander - Outlaw Space Rock From Dunedin
Q: How did the long tracks come together in the studio?
We worked in blocks, tracked drums and bass first, built acoustic guitars around them, and used the available space to create atmosphere; the process allowed the songs to breathe and grow, rather than forcing radio-friendly lengths.
J Callander - Outlaw Space Rock From Dunedin
Q: Tell me about what that is, Outlaw Space Rock.
It's about labeling music being problematic yet sometimes useful; the core is still the song, and the instrumentation leans into spacey guitar textures while keeping the heart of the song intact.
Voxtrot - Dreamers Back From Exile
Q: So, how did the reformation begin, and what sparked it after so long?
The reformation grew from repeated discussions and a gradual realization that revisiting Voxtrot could be meaningful, especially with new audiences and a renewed energy in the band; it wasn't a single planned moment but a convergence of timing, personal projects, and the desire to create together again.
The Long Ryders’ Sid Griffin And His High Noon Hymns
Q: What's the plan after the album release?
They'll tour in digestible bites, three to three-and-a-half week legs, balancing family life and touring obligations.
Bic Runga: Red Sunsets and Apocalyptic Nursery Rhymes
Q: What advice would you have for up and coming Kiwi musicians?
Focus on your live show and get really good at playing live.
