Hendrickson aims to explore the concept of dignity in the context of social movements, drawing connections to historical precedents like the Haitian Revolution and the Algerian War.

I've been pleasantly surprised by the documents revealing Tunisian educational missions to France and the underexplored significance of the Bardo Military School.

My path has taken a lot of turns, initially focusing on print culture in Egypt before becoming interested in Ottoman history and the educational reforms in Tunisia.

Q: Can you tell us a little bit more about how this focus on Nass el Ghiwane ties back to all the work that you did on the Voice of the Rural?
Four out of the five original members were from Hay Mohamedi, a neighborhood significant for mass rural exodus, which connects to my previous work on migration and rurality.

Q: How did you decide to focus on Nass el Ghiwane?
I decided to focus on Nass el Ghiwane because it's undoubtedly a very influential music group, and I'm interested in the role of music in the formation of protest in Morocco.
