  • Fantastic, Thoughtful Conversations

I had a whim to start designing my own cube, and was very lucky to have found this podcast first. I have enjoyed following weekly and delving into the years-long backlog of evergreen discussion. I especially appreciate the creators sharing how their life journeys have developed along with their love of cube and Magic. It is refreshing to hear people talk about setting boundaries with the things they care about. It is a key part of maintaining any relationship, even ones with cardboard rectangles... more

  • Falling Out Of Love But Still Talking

I stopped listening to Lucky Paper Radio something like a year ago because the hosts had grown increasingly negative about Magic. Not just aspects of Magic, but making comments about how Magic was no longer a game they loved. I just took a listen to the 2025 State of the Game episode (the most recent episode as of this review) to consider diving back in, as there was a time when I quite enjoyed the ‘cast. Alas, it’s another hour of finding everything negative about the game. If the podcast were ... more

On Colorless Cards
Q: How do you decide how many colorless cards to include in a cube?
We think in terms of goals and archetypes rather than strict quotas; colorless cards should fill holes, support mono-colored aggro, and enable colorless archetypes without overpowering color identities.
Tricentennial Q & A
Q: What is your most important takeaway about building a creative, community-driven podcast without being a 'centered' monolith?
The key is accepting that there is no single center; multiple subcultures can thrive, and the community should be allowed to grow in a flexible, interconnected way without forcing a single narrative.
Tricentennial Q & A
Q: What things would you like to see next in the Cube World or your local Cube Group?
We emphasize stability and sustainable growth, with more distributed leadership, less centralized control, and continued expansion of community events so that more people can participate without burnout.
Tricentennial Q & A
Q: Now that it's years in the past, how do you tell the origin story of Lucky Paper and Lucky Paper Radio?
We explain the origins from a 2018 shift—from posting articles to building a simple website, then turning to podcasting during COVID when in-person cube nights stopped; the story emphasizes collaboration, transparency about expenses, and the move from digital to a physical, evolving community.
Packing and Mapping Synergies in Cubes
Q: How many themes do you think can fit into a cube?
The discussion suggests that having around 24 to 36 themes might create a balanced and engaging gameplay experience without overwhelming the design.
