Gareth’s whole life has been defined by a relationship he had 35 years ago when, as a 14-year-old schoolboy, he fell in love with an attractive young teacher at his school. He spent most afternoons in her bedroom and thought he was the luckiest boy in the world. But when she walked out of his life everything started to unravel.

This was a brilliant podcast telling a horrible story.
If anyone reading these reviews was contacted, knew what was happening and didn’t “want to get involved”, you are everything that is wrong with the world.
I think this podcast does a good job of making the listener consider whether the length of time that has passed since the
abuse happened matters. I personally don’t and the dismissive comments about “a witch hunt” about someone who has used her power to take advantage of vulnerable children made my stomach churn. And yet…you can hear that for many folks it does matter.
I hope Gareth gets some peace. I believe his life was irrecoverably altered.
Gareth seems truthful, intelligent, courageous & determined. Who knows what he could have achieved had he not been manipulated & abused by his pedophile teacher. The hurt, pain, she also caused Gareth’s mother is also evident, as too was the failure / dismissiveness of all who failed to protect her son and ostracised him further. Both inspiring people. Thank you.

This series explores the complex and often troubling dynamics of a relationship between a 14-year-old boy and his teacher, challenging the conventional definitions of victimhood and perpetration. Following Gareth's narrative, the episodes unravel not just his experiences of trauma and manipulation, but also contextualize them within the educational system's failures and societal attitudes towards such relationships from the late 1980s. Through investigative storytelling, the series addresses the lasting psychological scars and emotional damage that can arise from these formative experiences, prompting listeners to reconsider issues of consent, accountability, and power imbalances in teacher-student dynamics. The unique approach to storytell... more
