  • Life changing

Paul Tizzard, the Lovefly podcasts and Facebook community have changed my life! From someone who was petrified on a short flight to Europe I am now looking forward to two major trips in the next 12 months. One to Mauritius via Dubai to celebrate a special anniversary, and the other in 2025 to Sydney via Singapore to visit my sister for the first time since she moved there 12 years ago. I remember crying when she emigrated and telling her I’d never be able to fly to Australia. Thanks to Lovefly t... more

  • So helpful

I have been scared of flying for the past 20 years. I’ve kept travelling but with serious anxiety leading up to trips that takes all the fun out of travel. I was dreading my longhaul flight to go home to visit family and found this podcast to see if I could make it better. All of the different stories, technical information and techniques to help overcome this fear on the podcasts is amazing. I’m (almost) excited to get on a plane, knowing what I know now. Thank you!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep. 279 - Gosia on Overcoming Fear of Flying Part 2
Q: Can you imagine a time when you might not worry about turbulence at all?
I can imagine it becoming normal to see turbulence as just air movement and not a threat, especially as I continue learning, gain more confidence, and see others calmly navigating similar experiences.
Ep. 279 - Gosia on Overcoming Fear of Flying Part 2
Q: What sort of things might you say to people who are still afraid and looking for hope?
I would tell them that change is possible if they seek structured help, expose themselves gradually to flights, learn about turbulence and aviation, and rely on a supportive community that validates their experience while guiding them forward.
Ep. 279 - Gosia on Overcoming Fear of Flying Part 2
Q: So what was the turning point that made you think, oh, I want to do something about this?
The turning point came when we nearly canceled a family trip; realizing the impact of fear on my children and partner pushed me to invest in a course and pursue exposure to flying, which started the transformation.
Ep. 272 Tariye, Pilot discussing Nigerian Commercial Aviation and much more
Q: Why is commercial aviation so safe, in your opinion?
Safety rests on a combination of strict global regulations, comprehensive training, continuous recurrency, and a culture of crew resource management where every crew member can speak up and challenge decisions. Redundancies and audits across maintenance, safety, and operations ensure that issues are caught before they affect flight safety.
Ep. 271 - Flying is so safe due to great Aircraft Design and Development... Two great Engineers tell us more
Q: How is redundancy implemented in aircraft systems?
Redundancies are built across hydraulic, electrical, and control systems with independent, dissimilar paths and multiple backups so that a single failure doesn't compromise flight safety.
