  • Life changing

Paul Tizzard, the Lovefly podcasts and Facebook community have changed my life! From someone who was petrified on a short flight to Europe I am now looking forward to two major trips in the next 12 months. One to Mauritius via Dubai to celebrate a special anniversary, and the other in 2025 to Sydney via Singapore to visit my sister for the first time since she moved there 12 years ago. I remember crying when she emigrated and telling her I’d never be able to fly to Australia. Thanks to Lovefly t... more

  • So helpful

I have been scared of flying for the past 20 years. I’ve kept travelling but with serious anxiety leading up to trips that takes all the fun out of travel. I was dreading my longhaul flight to go home to visit family and found this podcast to see if I could make it better. All of the different stories, technical information and techniques to help overcome this fear on the podcasts is amazing. I’m (almost) excited to get on a plane, knowing what I know now. Thank you!

Ep. 291 - Joanna 14 flights in one year to cure hear her fear of flying
Q: Can you walk us through the kinds of information and education that helped you overcome your fear?
She details learning about turbulence, engine failure probabilities, pilot training, ground crew thoroughness, and regulations—combined with engaging with the Lovefly community and observing real-world flight scenarios—to build confidence and reduce fear through factual understanding and exposure.
Ep. 291 - Joanna 14 flights in one year to cure hear her fear of flying
Q: What do you think Joanna was scared of specifically, and why did it manifest as fear?
Joanna explains there wasn't a single fear, but a cumulative sense of danger and the feeling of dropping that fear regardless of logic, driven by past experiences and a broader fear of the unknown during flight; education helped reframe these fears as manageable through understanding aviation safety and procedures.
Ep. 292 - Gill Crane and it is never too late to overcome your fear of flying
Q: What finally pushed you to confront the fear after so many years?
A combination of needing to visit distant family (Malaysia and Vietnam) and realizing that long-term avoidance would only worsen life-limiting impacts, which motivated Gill to seek structured help and the Lovefly program.
Ep. 290 - Josh Aronson Autism and Fear of Flying
Q: What practical steps can someone take to improve their travel experience if they are autistic?
Register DPNR ahead of time, request preferred seating, use quiet rooms when possible, bring noise-reducing headphones, and ensure staff are briefed and engaged about the passenger's needs throughout the journey.
Ep. 290 - Josh Aronson Autism and Fear of Flying
Q: Is there a link between fear of flying and autism, and how should people approach flying when autistic?
Fear of flying in autism often stems from fear of the unknown, but with proper preparation, clear communication, and staff awareness, flying can become manageable and even enjoyable as comfort zones are gradually expanded.
