While these guys sound sweet and humble, I stopped listening after a few episodes. I was looking for more insight and a social justice type of analysis/historical background (since 1921 Tulsa was not in my history books). For me, the discussion I am looking for is not what these guys were focusing on. I stopped listening after their comments relating to “Whitey on the moon” which pretty much missed the point for me. I guess I kind of liken it to as if someone created a podcast to nerd out on the... more
This is yet another lazy attempt to analyse an innovative, creative and profound TV show that raises themes of historical social and racist injustice using magical realism, science-fiction, horror and supernatural genres in addition to classical & contemporary literature & music. The podcasters skirt around the complex family dynamics and avoid the opportunity to discuss the issues raised. For many this show has been revolutionary, however, for these hosts, they have failed to do their research ... more
I listened to the audiobook “Lovecraft Country” by Matt Ruff about 2 months before the premiere of the HBO show. About 5 weeks into the show, I started listening to the HBO podcast, as well as the For All Nerds podcast. Once I was done with those, I found this one. About 6 minutes into the first podcast, I very nearly stopped. I was shocked that you guys had absolutely NO idea about the show (you kept mentioning how it wasn’t anything like HP Lovecraft) and that you didn’t even bother to do just... more
🤦♂️.
Th is show was made with Black viewers in mind. A lot of it goes over your heads. There’s some things you just won’t understand the importance of or understand. The fact that you guys didn’t recognize the importance of the ancestors is an example. I’m not sure which one of you said it but one of you said there was too much focus on the racial stuff but I completely disagree. That’s what made it unique. I was shocked to hear someone say the show started strong and kept getting worse. I scratched... more
Three white dudes from Mississippi think they can watch a black horror show, that is immersed in black culture, and think they can explain it without any kind of research. It is really funny how they actually ask the listeners to write in and explain it to them. You would think that after 10 episodes that they would at least know the names of the actors...nope.
“I am” is the most amazing episode out of this series to me. The fact that this episode went over the host head is not surprising that’s literally the point. Very insulting to have the same type of ppl the show is trying to expose actually think they can weigh in on a show of this depth. Privilege
Please research black American history before commenting. I am trying very hard to enjoy this podcast but the ignorance of black American history is upsetting. I have always known that white Americans have always refused to understand other cultures but to publicly comment on a show that has some historical aspects of black America only to hear the host say “I don’t know” is upsetting.
Hey guys, why don’t we have a black perspective who is familiar with this same story line or book, also I see a lot of this from a spiritual point of view, it’s a thin line between it and magic there’s so much more depth
An amazing show needs an amazing podcast & therefore look no further...... great recap & insight on each episode from a bunch of guys who obviously love their horror & mystery!!
Thanks guys for a really informative and thoughtful podcast. It’s been a great companion to a thought provoking show. Well done!!!!
I love the perspective these guys while also making me chuckle with their banter! They break it down and explain it (which was REALLY HELPFUL with episode I Am!) as best they can. Definitely going to listen to your other stuff. Thanks for a great show
I am a black woman that enjoys listening to you alls perspectives. It’s always interesting to hear how y’all breakdown each episode. I appreciate the fact that y’all are open to learning about the things you are unfamiliar with. Everyone is entitled to their own interpretations and whether or not I agree with your opinions I still get a kick out listening each week.
This podcast is the epitome of anyone can start a podcast. HBO should do a cease and desist. These dudes did not or refuse to do any research on the topics. They sound bored with each episode. And the most part just talking out the side of their necks. Go to the original podcast with Misha Green you know the woman who actually wrote the show. Lovecraft Country Podcast presented by HBO. Cause this is hot garbage.
These white men are amazing at dodging the racism & horror that doesn’t deal with monsters. They’re clearly bored with the storylines that involve the women. They don’t know what they’re talking about & sit comfortably in their ignorance.
