I wouldn‘t call this journalism. It tries so hard to come up with suspects and reasons why this wasn‘t a just a tragedy. The case was somved in the first (?) episode. It‘s really sad, but the photos the girls took make it clear that they did not return at the end of the hiking route, but went down the mountain on the other side, into the jungle, away from town and into a zone with no cell reception.
