  • Celluloid Heroes

Celluloid Heroes on the Longbox Crusade is my new favorite podcast. I love the look back at 70s and 80s movies, but really enjoy the host’s ongoing story about what those movies meant to him and a whole generation of kids. The personal touch is what separates this podcast from so many other movie podcasts.

  • You’ll Believe a Megatron can Fly!

The Marvel run of the Transformers comic books series gets the LBC treatment, with honest takes on the classic series from longtime fans and relative newbies alike. The enthusiasm is strong, even during issues that may be “less loved” than others, and the conversations are always fun and as refreshing as pure energon :)

  • Comic shop talk perfected

Love if Transformers, G. I. Joe, New Warriors and more. These guys talk about any and everything remotely related to the topic at hand and I love it. Plenty of ear worms and ridiculous running jokes from a group of friends with a noble purpose of reading comics.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Transformers Chronicles: The Marvel Years - Episode 073: Transformers #73 (Marvel)
Q: John, what do you think about the Earth part versus Cybertron there?
John feels the Earth battle is strong and the Neo Knights are mixed in impact, with the Cybertorn sequences offering stronger art and a sense of escalation.
Indiana Jones and the Comics Crusade - Episode 25: The Further Adventures of Indiana Jones #25 (Marvel)
Q: Were you reading the Indy comics at the time, and do you have a history with the Marvel series?
Jamie explains he did not have much history with the 1980s Indy comics at the time and notes that Star Wars eclipsed Indiana Jones for him during that era, though he later read some and followed certain artists and storylines.
Indiana Jones and the Comics Crusade - Episode 25: The Further Adventures of Indiana Jones #25 (Marvel)
Q: How did Indiana Jones come into your life, Jamie?
Jamie describes his lifelong love of the franchise, early drive-in experiences with Raiders and other films, and how those memories shaped his appreciation for the Indy comics and related media.
Comics To Console Crusade - Episode 12: The Punisher (2005)
Q: How does the game capture the essence of the Punisher comic?
The panel agrees it captures the early 2000s Punisher vibe, especially the Welcome Back, Frank era, with authentic voice acting and a grim, violent atmosphere that mirrors the comics and ties to the movie.
Come Out to Play… A New Warriors Podcast - Episode 52: New Warriors Vol.1 #52
Q: What do you think about the cover and the art style for issue 52?
We think Richard Pace delivers high-energy, dynamic pages with strong splash panels, though some prefer Bagley or Robertson for certain sequences; overall the cover communicates speed, danger, and the clash with Psionex.
