  • Great listen for budget filmmakers!

Nigel is amazing! Besides bringing knowledge, experience and great guests to the podcast, he also shows patience and understanding in helping budget filmmakers. Super smart and yet really humble. Did I mention that he’s accessible? Somewhat rare with experienced YouTuber’s these days. He always answers Patreon questions each month and his Patreon membership is budget friendly. He answers YouTube community questions and polls on IG. Needless to say…highly recommended!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

EP88: My take on NAB 2026 & best outdoor shooting techniques
Q: Do you have any rules of thumb to make appealing videos in chaotic circumstances?
Yes. Treat chaotic outdoor moments as three-shot segments with a clear beginning, middle, and end, vary angles and focal lengths, and plan placement so the sun backlights the subject for more dynamic visuals; even in high noon lighting, smart positioning can yield strong footage.
EP 87: Why this $500 camera still rocks in 2026 w/ ⁨Caleb Hoover
Q: What was some of the first content you posted and how did you pivot into the GH5-focused channel content?
Caleb explains how his earliest videos were reviews and setup guides before he leaned into GH5-focused content, which helped his channel grow as viewers sought practical settings and workflow advice.
Working as a DP & building a YouTube channel with Keaton Nye
Q: What would you say is one underrated skill as a DP or cinematographer?
Being a problem solver who understands the story, time constraints, and the needs of different departments, plus strong lighting knowledge and having ready-made recipes for quick setups.
Working as a DP & building a YouTube channel with Keaton Nye
Q: So did you start out like as a videographer, were you peeing at first? how did you kind of get your start into DPing?
I started in the college digital media program, interned at an agency, and moved from PA to AC and then to DP through hands-on experience on campus and with a director friend, gradually taking on bigger projects as I proved myself.
EP84: If I had to buy a sub $1000 camera right now
Q: If you were going to match non-log Lumix footage to V-log, how would you go about it?
He suggests using a color checker and a hack to get CineLikeD on the GX85, then matching it with V-log through grading techniques.
