  • It doesn’t really stand out

I listen to four other Sooners football podcasts and this one is pretty generic.

There’s the requisite amount of homerism from Smith, who also has an extremely annoying habit of swallowing in mid sentence during his long winded Pom Pom waving rants.

Williams is solid and deserves better support.

  • Recruiting

This 3 star recruiting isn’t going to cut it in the SEC. No disrespect to the linebackers being brought in but why can’t a head coach that was a linebacker bring in the top tier linebackers to Norman?

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

National Championship or Heisman: Which is MORE Likely in 2026? How eligibility rules have a positive impact
Q: Which is more likely to happen this year:National Championship, SEC title, or John Mateer winning the Heisman?
The hosts lean toward John Mateer winning the Heisman as the most likely outcome among the three, followed by an SEC title, then a National Championship, citing Mateer's progression, the playbook familiarity, and the supporting cast improving the odds.
BREAKING: Brent Venables Gives Oklahoma Sooners INJURY UPDATE That Could CHANGE Everything!
Q: How did you feel about what they did in the transfer portal to try to retool a team that made the college football playoff in 2025?
Crain expresses cautious optimism, noting Brent Venables' defense was strong and that the portal is being used to fill offensive gaps rather than overhauling the entire roster, with a belief that the added offensive line depth and veterans could help take Oklahoma to the next level.
NCAA BLUNDER Unleashes Massive Shift for Oklahoma Sooners and Owen Heinecke | Jim Nagy WINNING on recruiting trail | OU's best position group?
Q: What's the best position group on the team?
The discussion leans between the defensive line and wide receiver, with the defense arguably having more proven high-end talent and depth, but the wide receivers show a lot of future potential with several NFL prospects and a strong supporting cast; the consensus is that both groups have compelling cases, with depth and development likely deciding the ultimate answer.
OH? Oklahoma Sooners SEC Roster REVAMP Promises Dramatic Shift for Brent Venables
Q: What is the confidence level with Mateer making the right decisions and how does he look coming into camp?
Mateer appears to be back to his pre-injury form with improved drop timing and throw mechanics, showing increased trust in his reads and better motion.
OH? Oklahoma Sooners SEC Roster REVAMP Promises Dramatic Shift for Brent Venables
Q: Yes, I do think this team can this year. One, the offense, the run game should be a lot better. If you see just a slight improvement in the run game and consistency in the run game, guess what?
Improved run game will keep the defense rested and reduce exposure to high-pace drives, while the overall depth at running back should provide more reliable production.
