  • I've been listening to Locked On Canadiens for years now. Laura and Ian (and Scott, when he was around!) are gems. They provide such smart analysis and always give me things to think about with this team. I'm a night owl so I usually listen to the episode an hour or two after it's out and they never disappoint. Definitely my first listen of the day šŸ˜‚ Highly recommend! Really smart hockey people, and also really great people in general 😊

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Can Montreal Canadiens benefit from NHL trade requests? Can Maddox Dagenais fall to Habs? Mailbag
Q: If the Habs can't work a trade for a big 2C, is it worth pivoting to an elite winger and pursuing in-house solutions such as prospects?
The hosts note that trading for a traditional second-line center is difficult given market availability, so they lean toward exploring winger upgrades and developing internal options like Demidov, with an understanding that any move should not hollow out the core by sacrificing draft picks or top prospects.
DEADLOCKED: Montreal Canadiens vs Tampa Bay Lightning a close battle | Surprises? | Keys to winning
Q: What about Montreal? What must they do to extend the series and push back against the Lightning's depth?
Montreal must protect the puck better, sustain possession against Tampa's clogging lanes, and continue getting secondary contributions from players beyond the top lines, while maintaining strong defensive structure and goaltending.
DEADLOCKED: Montreal Canadiens vs Tampa Bay Lightning a close battle | Surprises? | Keys to winning
Q: All right. It is the moment of truth. What do these teams need to do to beat the other in the series? Let's start with Tampa.
Tampa needs to elevate their effort level, calm their puck management, and rely on a more fundamental, patient game that leverages Hagel's smart puck control and better passing to avoid getting bogged down by Montreal's pressure.
Montreal Canadiens DEFY nerves—Martin St. Louis preps Habs for Bell Centre BATTLE | Playoff format ideas
Q: If the top line can't get untracked in game three, will it be time for St. Louis to break up the first line and put Slaf on the second? Who would you place on the top line instead of Slaf?
They believe the top line will get online in game three and are hesitant to break it up, arguing that Slafkovsky provides essential balance and fit on the third, with the rest of the veterans needing to elevate rather than reshuffle the core. They emphasize sticking with the current arrangement because changing it could disrupt the chemistry that got them here.
Stanley Cup Playoff Preview MAILBAG: Habs Who NEED To Step Up | How Montreal Can Beat Tampa Bay
Q: What is your biggest concern going into the series?
The absence of Noah Dobson is the biggest concern, and replacing his impact over a seven-game series is nearly impossible, affecting both defense and the top penalty-kill/positional reliability.
