  • Sad Omission

I really enjoyed the cost of climate change series. However I am always frustrated that these conversations never touch on animal agriculture. It’s a huge contributor to greenhouse gases and it’s the leading cause of deforestation and biodiversity loss. Also it’s one thing that most individuals can actually do to make a significant difference. Please please talk about this because people can and should reduce consumption of animal products!!

  • Water IS woowoo

I mostly enjoyed this episode until the conversation turned toward the sacredness of water as being woowoo and how there might be a ‘danger’ in that. Water, that arrived here from deep space and makes ALL Life possible, IS woowoo. It IS mythic and worthy of goddess like status. If You care about Life, your own Life, it behooves one to honor the sacredness of water, not only a resource, a precious substance more valuable than gold actually.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Would the four-day work week kill productivity?
Q: Jen, can you give us a quick recap on the idea behind the shorter working week?
The four-day week allocates 32 hours across four days with no pay cut, aiming to keep productivity up while giving workers more free time and reducing burnout, emissions, and commuting stresses.
Why some men tune out climate change
Q: Are men really less concerned about the planet than women? And if so, why do you think that is?
Yes, men generally show less concern about environmental issues compared to women due to factors including traditional masculinity norms and political influences that lead to skepticism.
Sneaky sneakers: What your shoes aren't telling you (Rebroadcast)
Q: What if the world became vegan?
If we became vegan, I mean, based on the research, that would probably lower greenhouse gas emissions and land use in the way that livestock uses it, because livestock uses a significant amount of our crop land.
Sneaky sneakers: What your shoes aren't telling you (Rebroadcast)
Q: So Kathleen, what is better? Is it leather or is it synthetic shoes? Can you give a clear answer on this?
If you're sitting in the States, and the next state over, they're making plant-based shoes from corn waste, it's going to have a much smaller CO2 footprint and lower greenhouse gas emissions, then I would say the answer is clearly a plant-based shoe would be the better alternative.
AI can unlock nature’s symphony, but can it save biodiversity?
Q: How can bioacoustics help predict changes in biodiversity?
By providing continuous monitoring and insights into ecosystems, indicating shifts that may correspond to environmental changes.
