  • Best Hollywood Podcast!

I am such a big fan of this show!

After recently coming back from an 8 year hiatus from acting I had no idea where to start with getting information about what was current in the entertainment industry.

When I came across Carolina's Podcast I immediately felt like I was back "in the mix.”

Angle on Producers gives listeners valuable information in a real, down to earth way. Not only does she speak about what is relevant, but she does not shy away from asking questions to female guests on what ... more

  • Inclusion and equity have no place in creativity

You’re either creative or not. Your skin color and gender play no part in it.

The SECOND this show went into DIE (not DEI) they lost a respect and credibility. The episodes that deal with pure producing and not DIE are great, which is why you I still gave two stars. But belief in inclusion and DIE removes all evidence of intelligence.

DIE is what’s killing the industry. Hire people based on their ability to create. Stay away from the hidden sexist and racist agenda that is DIE.

Carolina does such a beautiful job at bringing out truthful and meaningful stories from her guests. I appreciate how she can balance the realness of this tough profession with the joy of why we love being storytellers. Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Comedy Legends Bob Odenkirk and David Cross Climb Machu Picchu
Q: Let's talk about Machu Picchu.
The hosts and guests discuss the epic hike, the logistics, the physical and mental challenges, and how the experience shaped their creative process and perspectives on producing.
Substack Live: Six Offers. No Rep. No Problem. Indie Filmmaker Carolina Alvarez on Self-Distributing "Sync"
Q: Festival strategy and how it tied into distribution seems crucial here. How did you balance festival play with securing a distribution deal?
Festivals served as a marketing tool and community builder. I prioritized festivals that aligned with our genre and produced meaningful connections, while keeping the door open to distribution offers as momentum built. It wasn't about chasing every big festival but choosing the right ones to grow the film's footprint.
Substack Live: Six Offers. No Rep. No Problem. Indie Filmmaker Carolina Alvarez on Self-Distributing "Sync"
Q: What was your approach to outreach to distributors, and how did you handle negotiations without a reps system?
I built a hands-on process: researched distributors, reached out directly, studied deal points with a lawyer, and learned to negotiate from first principles. It helped me understand what was fair and what wasn't, and I kept the process transparent with potential partners.
Substack Live: Six Offers. No Rep. No Problem. Indie Filmmaker Carolina Alvarez on Self-Distributing "Sync"
Q: How did you approach setting the budget and goals for your first feature, and how quickly did you move from funding to shooting?
I started with a conservative, contained production plan that kept the budget manageable while still targeting high production value. Once we secured a funding path and could demonstrate proof of concept, we moved into production to leverage that momentum.
Personal Update + Listener Questions Answered
Q: How do you pick your guests and what is the process for securing studio executives and producers to come on the show?
The host explains that guest selection depends on seasonality and alignment with the show's goals, balancing new voices with meaningful conversations, and following up with thoughtful pitches that fit the Arsenal of conversations the show has built.
