Adam is a superb writer, whose three books should be a part of any bridge players library. He is a patient and thoughtful teacher who earns respect without ever suggesting he deserves it. I am so excited to have this podcast as a resource as I also attempt to Level Up.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Adam Grossack
Q: How did mentoring shape your game?
Mentors like Michael Mextroth and David Granger exposed me to new strategic approaches, helped refine card play, and gave me the confidence and humility to learn from others.
Adam Grossack
Q: What was your first big junior success?
Winning the Junior Individual in 2010 after a strong run in the finals, which gave me early credibility and motivation in the junior circuit.
Adam Grossack
Q: Tell me, how did you learn bridge?
I started with lessons at a local club as a kid, enjoyed math-like problem solving, and then pushed myself to study books and notes from my mom's lessons until things started clicking.
David Gold
Q: Do you think data and analytics will change bridge like they did in chess or poker?
He believes data could push the game forward, especially in tracking opponents' habits and defense patterns, but he is skeptical about crowding into simulations without accurate parameters; sees potential for an 'arms race' if top teams invest heavily.
David Gold
Q: Tell me, how did you learn bridge?
David describes starting at school after being introduced to bridge by peers, reading books, and progressing through duplicates and rubber bridge with his father backing him; a rapid immersion in the game after a rocky start in ordinary school life.
