Adam is a superb writer, whose three books should be a part of any bridge players library. He is a patient and thoughtful teacher who earns respect without ever suggesting he deserves it. I am so excited to have this podcast as a resource as I also attempt to Level Up.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

David Gold
Q: Do you think data and analytics will change bridge like they did in chess or poker?
He believes data could push the game forward, especially in tracking opponents' habits and defense patterns, but he is skeptical about crowding into simulations without accurate parameters; sees potential for an 'arms race' if top teams invest heavily.
David Gold
Q: Tell me, how did you learn bridge?
David describes starting at school after being introduced to bridge by peers, reading books, and progressing through duplicates and rubber bridge with his father backing him; a rapid immersion in the game after a rocky start in ordinary school life.
Josh Donn
Q: What is your routine at a tournament like?
He describes a structured routine that emphasizes pacing, sleep, and nutrition; he mentions playing the first half of boards at Nationals, staying rested, and managing adrenaline to stay focused across long sessions.
Josh Donn
Q: What should one do to work on their bridge?
Play a lot with proper focus, read relevant bridge material, and talk to better players; but more importantly, teach and think through hands rather than memorize rules, focusing on offense/defense evaluation and developing a personal approach.
Josh Donn
Q: Do you read much these days?
He reads less now but still keeps up with notable books and personal favorites, mainly when hype or new voices draw attention; writing and experience have become more central to his learning.
