  • Disappointed

How incredibly disappointing that Tiffany Hutchins was a guest and only presented her biased view of gestalt language development. I highly encourage the hosts of this podcasts to speak to clinicians in the trenches that are doing this work with GLPs and see it “working.” We have been failing our autistic kids for years using an outdated approach of one size fits all language development. Please consider having guest experts on that can present the other side. Talk to autisic adults and parent... more

  • Valuable and informative podcast

As an SLP working with parents and early providers, Rhea and Donia provide insightful tips and strategies that are intuitive, helpful and based on years of experience in the field. I appreciate their overview of ASD, while also providing evidence-based information (and de-bunking myths). I will definitely tune in to future podcasts!

  • So much useful information!

I loce that your episodes are full of good idea and tips for families. I talk a lot about using routines to build on language; thanks for reinforcing the idea that you don't necessarily need to do something different or more. Playing with our kids is just what they need.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Gestalt language processing (GLP) with guest Dr. Tiffany Hutchins.
Q: What would you like our listeners to take away from the importance of your article and the work you've done about GLP and the NLA approach to therapy?
The takeaway is to focus on evidence-based practices and that we should continue advocating for effective therapy approaches rather than get caught up in potentially flawed stage models.
Gestalt language processing (GLP) with guest Dr. Tiffany Hutchins.
Q: What are some of the problems or what you've found in the claim that autism represents an extreme gestalt processing style?
Dr. Hutchins notes that the definition of GLP is circular and lacks clear measurement and that individuals with autism often show strengths in detail-oriented processing, countering the typical definition of a gestalt processor.
