  • Great Overall

Many of the lectures are very good. Skip the cult and the prison gang ones, though. You won’t learn much about either.

Would enjoy more variety of subjects. History has a lot of great topics.

  • 1876 Great Sioux War

I was just grinding my teeth this entire lecture. It was extremely biased against USA. Is the Professor by any chance Native American for crying out loud? It was too one sided for me. He was unsuccessful in taking a balanced approach. Too much liberal sentiments studded this interesting subject. 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • Mark Moyar on Vietnam

It was very informative and points out how some historians and journalists have clearly overlooked what was happening in South Vietnam from 1968-73. After 1967, many on the left focus on what was happening in America while selectively highlighting a few highly negative events in South Vietnam.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Revolutionary War Roots of the Civil War
Q: What role did sectional identity play in shaping Constitutional debates and the party system?
The speaker discusses how debates over representation, the Three-Fifths Clause, and the balance of power between states and the federal government underscored enduring sectional tensions that predated the Civil War and influenced party alignment.
Revolutionary War Roots of the Civil War
Q: How does the Jacksonian era illuminate the era's attitudes toward labor, democracy, and slavery?
Jacksonian democracy amplified the celebration of the common man and labor, yet it was entangled with slaveholding in the South; the era showcased a widening chasm between Northern and Southern social orders, contributing to ongoing national tension.
Revolutionary War Roots of the Civil War
Q: Looking back, could steps have been taken to avert the Civil War by addressing Southern slaveholders' concerns and Northern fears?
The speaker argues that given the entrenched nature of slavery in some states and the demographic weight of slaveholding interests, it is unlikely that a peaceful solution could have been found; compromises postponed the inevitable, and the Missouri crisis crystallized the irreconcilable divide.
When the Sea Came Alive - An Oral History Of D-Day
Q: What myths about D-Day does your research challenge?
Graff explains that the common belief in a fragile, narrowly-escapable invasion is overstated; instead, the Allies overprepared and overinvested in capability, making the beach landings highly likely to succeed despite inherent risks.
FEED DROP A250: Abraham Lincoln and Conditions Leading to the Civil War
Q: Why should we tell the enslaved people's story alongside the generals and politicians?
Because their perspectives reveal the human stakes of the conflict and illuminate how emancipation unfolded through the courage and sacrifices of those who were enslaved, not just through top-down political decisions.
