  • Such great in depth info!

My inquiring mind ALWAYS wants to know more than the handful of talking points for these criminal cases! Thanks to your entire crew for getting to the nitty gritty! One suggestion for Jesse for those of us listening in busy places..PLEASE keep the volume of your voice UP and evenly toned, you probably don’t realize your voice gets super low and muffled when you “sidebar” your thoughts! I keep having to rewind and listen again and again! =P

  • Great podcast, but audio levels too low

This is a great podcast, and Jesse has many knowledgeable guests on to speak about the various legal issues involved. However, my one beef is that the volume is way too low in the recording and I have to turn it way up. Maybe turn the recording volume up a smidge? Other than that, keep up the great work!

  • daily news

I always look forward to listening to Sidebar every morning. It’s like my daily news! I love how Jesse also brings on guests who are practicing or retired attorneys. I’m interested in law, and this show helps me prepare for future cases and how to not have a biased opinion, but rather look at FACTS and details of a case. Thanks again L&C!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Nolan Wells Mystery: Data Demand & Drinking Claims Rock Case
Q: How do the audio and video pieces fit into the timeline, and what should investigators prioritize next?
The audio and video help establish whether Nolan was on the boat, the timing of his last known movements, and whether there were distress signals. Investigators should prioritize consolidating all versions of the audio, verifying metadata, and cross-referencing eyewitness timelines with the photo and video evidence from the island and mainland.
Nolan Wells Mystery: Data Demand & Drinking Claims Rock Case
Q: Matt, what do you make of the subpoenas for social-media and messaging data in this case?
Subpoenas like these are standard for electronic records; they reflect a legitimate effort to compile evidence from digital sources and are part of a broader approach to corroborate eyewitness accounts and locate communications tied to Nolan on Horn Island and surrounding areas.
Nolan Wells Mystery: 'Lies' Swirl in Death Investigation
Q: If you are going to do interviews, does that suggest they had absolutely nothing to do with this, or could it expose them to legal jeopardy?
Interviews can raise legal jeopardy if they affect potential charges or civil actions; timing and consistency with law enforcement findings matter, and courts may scrutinize statements for credibility and potential leverage in civil cases.
Nolan Wells Mystery: 'Lies' Swirl in Death Investigation
Q: Dave, where do we stand on this?
There's a tension between the family and friends, some seeking records and preservation of evidence, but there is no conclusive evidence of foul play yet, with ongoing questions about credibility and the possibility of a wrongful death action.
Horrific Autopsy Photos Stun Court in D4vd Murder Hearing
Q: What is missing right now that they have yet to definitively show, particularly regarding the weapon and sequence of events?
Deng notes that the autopsy cannot definitively identify a weapon or the exact sequence of injuries due to decomposition, and that the timeline and surveillance may still be developed in later proceedings.
