  • Love the 80% of Life is Just Showing Up episode!

Great work on this, Jan! I was impressed by that episode where you discussed making tough choices when figuring out if something is a "win or lose everything" situation, which is especially challenging for law firms with all the different marketing options. And I completely agree that while 80% of success is just being present and trying, the other 19% is all about trying, learning, and looking at data to get better at something. I never thought of that till now!

The Delegation Trap: Why Handing Off Tasks Isn't the Same as Handing Off Ownership with Jason Henneberry
Q: What is the practical difference between delegation and ownership transfer, and how should a founder approach compensation to align incentives?
Offer compensation that directly reflects the value delivered by the role and align incentives with outcomes across different roles, so frontline staff are motivated to close deals while administrators support and execute efficiently.
The Delegation Trap: Why Handing Off Tasks Isn't the Same as Handing Off Ownership with Jason Henneberry
Q: Okay, well, I want to take you through an example. How does one move from simply offloading tasks to actually handing over ownership and accountability?
By designing for outcomes, testing the weight of responsibility in small, controlled steps, and gradually expanding the scope as the person or system proves they can carry the load.
How to Run 50 Consultations a Week Without Being in the Room with Michael Patrick Strauch
Q: How does compensation typically work for a non-attorney closer?
A typical package includes a base salary (about $45k-$60k) plus on-target earnings of roughly $80k-$110k, with a flat per-hire bonus to avoid compliance issues and align incentives with performance.
How to Run 50 Consultations a Week Without Being in the Room with Michael Patrick Strauch
Q: What does it take to develop the capability to recruit non-attorney salespeople and why is it challenging?
It requires recognizing that salespeople are emotional and need structured support; firms must create processes, find the right people, ensure ongoing training, and build systems that allow a non-attorney closer to operate effectively without being overwhelmed by other tasks.

Q: What do you prioritize in a good intake process?
The number one priority is answering the phone promptly, as many firms often fail to do this.
