I'm concerned about the number of papers with manipulated data or images, which affects the integrity of the scientific literature, but confident in JALM's focus on reproducibility and rigorous peer review.

Q: What are some of the current aspects of JALM that you think are outstanding and you plan to continue them as editor in chief?
I want to continue the priority placed on attracting high-quality work relevant to the practice of laboratory medicine and introduce some modifications, including the gold open access transition.

Q: Now that you have just stepped into the role of Editor-in-Chief of JALM, what drew you to this role at this moment in your career?
This was a very opportune time for me as I was about to transition roles within the Department of Health in Northern Ireland and I have long-term interests in food and nutrition as well as laboratory medicine.
