  • Invigorating!

What a joy to listen to rich conversations with some of the world’s top economic and geopolitical thinkers. And it’s brilliantly navigated by Taimur — who neither talks down nor gets too far in the weeds, and allows his guests room to air out big ideas without unnecessary interruption. Here’s to many more!

  • Excellent economic insights

I love this podcast. Gives a great insight into topical and interesting economic themes with a focus on Asia but with global relevance. Some brilliant guests all expertly marshalled by Mr Baig. Acts as an interesting lens on key macro developments such as digitalisation, COVID and the growing focus on ESG and sustainability. Am embarrassed to say I was about 30 episodes in before I realised Kopi is Malay for coffee!..

Kopi Time E174 - Future of Jobs and Tasks with AI Singapore's Leslie Teo
Q: What is the core goal of Sea Lion and how does it differ from competing with the big global models?
Sea Lion focuses on regional data, local language support, and open collaboration to create AI that fits ASEAN needs, rather than competing head-to-head with multinational models that are general-purpose and not tailored to local contexts.
Kopi Time E173 - Dr. Khor Hoe Ee on Asia's Resilience and the Road Ahead
Q: What's your sense about Singapore's challenges with respect to the ongoing AI wave?
AI disruption is expected to be significant and near-term, especially for entry-level and service-sector jobs, which implies a need for proactive policy responses, including retraining, social protection, and possibly new redistribution mechanisms to share productivity gains.
Kopi Time E172: ICRIER head Shekhar Aiyar on key aspects of India’s outlook
Q: How do you envision India's strategy towards China?
India should enhance its engagement with China for trade and FDI while ensuring that it does not compromise on its strategic freedom related to global partnerships.
Kopi Time E172: ICRIER head Shekhar Aiyar on key aspects of India’s outlook
Q: What does the budget do for the agriculture sector?
The budget continues to allocate significantly for fertilizer subsidies but misses opportunities for agricultural R&D spending, which has much higher returns.
Kopi Time E172: ICRIER head Shekhar Aiyar on key aspects of India’s outlook
Q: What about fiscal transparency and debt dynamics?
Fiscal consolidation is on track, with the fiscal deficit reducing, but states are increasingly accumulating debt which could undermine progress at the central level.
