  • Great Interviews, But use mics

I have enjoyed the various interviews, but it’s a minimum to have everyone using a mic. It costs almost nothing to have a Bluetooth lapel mic or headset. Keep it up.

  • Four

This would be a 5 star but for 2 things. First, it’s to short. I think interviews with authors need a full hour. Second, I think a seasoned interviewer/host alongside the ladies would be helpful to drive the show and have questions from a different perspective. Otherwise, I love it, I love the information given and the choice of who they talk with or interview. Good show, could be great.

Kobo ReWriting Life - #30 - Adapting your Novel for the Screen with Maggie Marr
Q: What advice do you have for a writer who is struggling or not meeting their goals?
Struggle is universal; don't give up, acknowledge the process, treat writing as a practice that can be balanced with other life commitments, and remember that new opportunities are likely around the corner.
Kobo ReWriting Life - #30 - Adapting your Novel for the Screen with Maggie Marr
Q: What's a common bad deal to watch out for?
There are more bad deals than good ones; the key is to understand rights being sold and ensure you aren't giving away more than you intended—protect underlying IP with clear reservations and a solid plan.
Kobo ReWriting Life - #30 - Adapting your Novel for the Screen with Maggie Marr
Q: What should clients look for in a contract before signing?
Authors should read contracts themselves, involve their agent if they have one, and consider engaging an entertainment attorney to ensure rights like audiobook, stage, and book publishing are explicitly reserved to the author.
Kobo ReWriting Life - #30 - Adapting your Novel for the Screen with Maggie Marr
Q: Is it worth adapting your own work or better to have a producer/scriptwriter handle it?
Three to five years ago the guidance was to avoid self-adaptation unless you're a bestselling author; more recently, with a hungry market, authors might try it, but should not expect immediate big returns and should pursue collaboration with an experienced screenwriter or producer.
Kobo ReWriting Life - #30 - Adapting your Novel for the Screen with Maggie Marr
Q: What should an author know first when considering adaptation to screen?
There isn't one path; multiple routes exist, so authors should understand the landscape, have realistic expectations, and be ready to connect with producers or agents who can package a project with a credible screenwriter.
