This episode has already kicked my butt, and it’s only the intro. Can’t wait for more. Unpacking generations of Mormonism in 3..2…1…

So refreshing to hear a perspective about the practical application of spirituality in art instead of lots of theory. I loved this episode!

  • Stay Humble

This podcast covers topics and guests square in the spaces that most excite me. My life is devoted to the Know Thyself ethos and always has been. I appreciate so much the content André delivers but have always struggled with elements of how he delivers it. It would be so powerful if, as host, André would speak as a child speaks - asking open, wide-hearted questions with absolutely no need to demonstrate how smart he is or how much he himself knows. That is his own journey and inner work, and I h... more

  • Absolute Favorite Podcast

Know Thyself podcast is one that I’ve returned to each week for a few years now. It is my absolute favorite podcast. Andre puts so much love and intention into each episode - the questions asked, the guest selection, and even the crisp and clean audio and visual make for an extremely pleasant experience. I’ve laughed, cried, and I’ve grown so much personally just by listening to this podcast. I feel so grateful to have found Know Thyself and am excited to witness its unfolding

  • Just greatness

I saw people complaining about not having a “standard” for guests, I think all conversations and points of view in the podcast are valid or interesting at the list, most often than not providing self insights.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

E203 - Dr. Justin Sledge: The Occult, Witch Trials & the Forbidden Teachings of Gnosticism
Q: How should we approach the relationship between rationality and mysticism in historical texts?
We should recognize that mystics can be both rational and mystical, and avoid a false false dilemma; texts can present logical arguments while describing non-propositional experiences, so we need a critical sympathy that respects both the argument structure and the experiential depth.
E203 - Dr. Justin Sledge: The Occult, Witch Trials & the Forbidden Teachings of Gnosticism
Q: What do you define as the four qualities of mystical experiences and why do they matter?
The four qualities—noetic, ineffability, transient, and passive—capture how mystical experiences convey knowledge, resist full articulation, are momentary, and often occur to the person rather than through deliberate cultivation; these help frame how to evaluate such experiences without collapsing them into strict propositional claims.
E202 - Donald Robertson: 2,400-Year-Old Stoic Wisdom To Conquer Your Ego & Live a Virtuous Life
Q: What practical steps can someone take to cultivate wisdom and virtue in daily life?
The guest highlights practices such as journaling, dialogue, reflecting on what one admires in others, suspending judgment, viewing life from the larger cosmos, and adopting a Reserve Clause to detach outcomes from one's self-worth while still pursuing meaningful aims.
E202 - Donald Robertson: 2,400-Year-Old Stoic Wisdom To Conquer Your Ego & Live a Virtuous Life
Q: How do Stoic ideas translate into modern psychotherapy and everyday coping?
Robertson describes the Stoic emphasis on distinguishing automatic emotional reactions from subsequent rational responses, and how this aligns with cognitive-behavioral techniques like reframing, exposure, and value clarification to build resilience.
E202 - Donald Robertson: 2,400-Year-Old Stoic Wisdom To Conquer Your Ego & Live a Virtuous Life
Q: What is the conception behind Know Thyself as an important maxim carved at Delphi, and how does it relate to memento mori?
Donald Robertson explains that Know Thyself is about self-knowledge and understanding mortality to orient values toward virtue and wisdom, rather than external success; the discussion links this to memento mori as a reminder to focus on character and the present moment.
