  • Good info but annoying

I wish these ladies would listen to the experts instead of constantly saying, “right” “yes” and “I was thinking”. In my opinion they consistently interrupt to the degree that the expert is not able to make their point. The content is lost with the interruptions. Geez, hold your thoughts and questions until they are finished with a sentence!

  • Tried really hard

I really wanted to like this podcast because the topic is right up my alley, but I could not handle the editing. There were so many sounds of acknowledgment during each interview which felt like an interruption of the guest. I just think it would be better to not make those sounds and use editing to get rid of any long silences that you were trying to cover? After listening to three episodes, I just couldn’t anymore. It was too frustrating.

  • Host interruptions

Cannot stand the host’s interruptions every 2 seconds. What would otherwise be an awesome podcast is ruined by the hosts themselves. Disappointing

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Coral Reefs | With Dr. Katie Barott, Associate Professor of Biology
Q: How do corals adapt or recover after bleaching events, and what does recovery look like over time?
Bleached corals can regrow symbionts if conditions improve, but full recovery can take years; recovery varies by species and is influenced by energy reserves, reproduction rates, and environmental conditions.
Coral Reefs | With Dr. Katie Barott, Associate Professor of Biology
Q: What are the major challenges facing coral reefs today and what drives bleaching?
Barrett describes heatwaves and rising ocean temperatures as the biggest current challenge, with bleaching caused by loss of symbiotic algae; other stressors include pollution, sediments, and overfishing that disrupt energy flow and reef health.
Coral Reefs | With Dr. Katie Barott, Associate Professor of Biology
Q: Would you please introduce yourself and tell us what you do?
Katie Barrett explains she is a professor at the University of Pennsylvania, leading a lab that studies corals, their symbiosis with dinoflagellates, and how climate change and human influences affect coral biology.
Plants As Portals | Inside Botany of Nations Exhibit
Q: How does the concept of kincentricity shape the way you view plants and landscapes?
Kincentricity recognizes all relations—humans, plants, animals, and even objects—as kin; this perspective guides how communities steward land, plant seeds in ways that support long-term biodiversity, and share responsibility for future generations.
Plants As Portals | Inside Botany of Nations Exhibit
Q: What drew you to co-curate Botany of Nations with the Academy of Natural Sciences?
I was invited due to my background in ethnobotany and my work with Indigenous knowledge systems; the project aligned with my goal of bringing Indigenous perspectives to the forefront and reimagining how we interpret the Lewis and Clark expedition.
