  • Europe’s reckoning

Yakov, the above discussion (apologies I don’t recall his name) was amazing. Being British I’m much less optimistic that Europe and Britain can emerge from the malaise it appears to (me) be in. With regard to evil in the world etc.

I really felt some hope and my experience (hate marches aside) is that most people aren’t as taken in by the Iranian/hamas/hezbola propaganda even if it does seem to be well worked.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Back to Beaufort? Israel's Lebanon Dilemma
Q: How does Lebanon's dynamic affect the situation with Iran and Hezbollah?
The guest explains that Iran uses proxies like Hezbollah to extend influence; without concerted Lebanese government action and international pressure, Hezbollah remains a strategic lever for Iran, complicating any disarmament or peace process.
Back to Beaufort? Israel's Lebanon Dilemma
Q: Could Israel do more to move the political track and mobilize international actors?
Yes, but success hinges on leadership willingness to push a big-picture strategy, bring in regional partners, and avoid purely tactical moves that fail to address the root issues with Hezbollah and the Lebanese state.
Back to Beaufort? Israel's Lebanon Dilemma
Q: What does Israel want here? What's Israel's strategy with Lebanon?
The guest argues that the government lacks a clear, overarching strategy and instead pursues a mix of diplomacy and tactical pressure; a workable path would require a credible plan and achievable goals including potential regional buy-in and a gradual disarmament process.
Canada’s Jewish Reckoning
Q: There are trends in Europe that are also going in the opposite direction. What is the general political culture today in Canada?
She discusses Canada's left-leaning tendencies, regional differences (Quebec vs. English Canada), and the role of bureaucrats and political leadership in shaping policy toward Israel and the Jewish community, including language and regional demographic factors.
Canada’s Jewish Reckoning
Q: Can you describe for us these progressives?
Vivian describes a spectrum within Canadian politics, criticizing what she calls the convergence of Islamists and progressive circles around anti-Israel and anti-Zionist sentiments, and explains how this intersects with local politics and identity.
