Reviews

4.4 out of 5 stars from 40 ratings
  • Terrible advice

The kids screen time meta-analysis that lead to advice did not include the downside of child predators being readily available in the gaming rooms. And are we really thinking that children under 12 have great critical thinking skills? Disappointing and very one-sided in the approach to the research and meta-analysis.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Psychedelic Therapy vs Antidepressants for the Treatment of Depression Under Equal Unblinding Conditions
Q: What did the head-to-head psilocybin vs SSRI trial suggest, and how did it influence the current analysis?
The Imperial College psilocybin vs esketamine trial showed no difference on the predefined primary outcome but suggested potential advantages on secondary outcomes, prompting the current study to interpret results with focus on open-label versus blinded conditions and to understand how much blinding actually biases results.
Psychedelic Therapy vs Antidepressants for the Treatment of Depression Under Equal Unblinding Conditions
Q: What is the core reason that blinding is difficult in psychedelic trials, and why does it matter for interpreting results?
Psychedelics cause strong subjective effects that often reveal whether a participant received the active drug or placebo, undermining blinding and potentially biasing outcome measurements. This matters because it challenges the validity of the between-arm differences and motivates analyses that compare open-label psychedelic therapy with open-label antidepressants to get apples-to-apples comparisons.
Tailored Weight Loss Programs for Adults With Serious Mental Illness
Q: What was the goal and hypothesis for the study?
The goal was to compare the weight loss in participants using the Coach to Fit program versus those receiving usual care, hypothesizing that the Coach to Fit group would show greater weight loss.
Soft Drink Consumption and Depression Mediated by Gut Microbiome Alterations
Q: What are the public health implications you think that can be acted on from these results today?
Mental health professionals should check the dietary composition of patients and give dietary advice; policymakers should consider sugar taxes to reduce consumption.
Soft Drink Consumption and Depression Mediated by Gut Microbiome Alterations
Q: How do these pieces come together as the hypothesis for the research that you and the team did?
We were interested in how soft drinks consumption relates to depression and if this is mediated by changes in the gut microbiome composition.
