  • Love her questioning

I’ve been a long time fan of Sinead via her socials and love her intelligent and considered approach to discussions of tech and AI vs just clickbait (which I’d say a lot of her peers / media companies fall into doing). I have binged her whole podcast and LOVE the questions she puts forward to her guests. Sinead is someone I’d happily get stuck next to on a long flight - just an amazing thought leader. Can’t wait to hear more.

  • Sinead gets it right

Sinead invites the right people, asks the right questions and displays great knowledge of the subject herself. I have thoroughly enjoyed the first two and have added to my knowledge with each one. Yes, Sinead, for me, you are getting it just right - so keep them coming. Good luck🙏🏼

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

AI Godfather: Should We Stop AI? | Yoshua Bengio
Q: Can you explain why current AI systems tend toward self-preservation, deception, and even blackmail?
The behaviors stem from training regimes where AIs imitate human texts and learn goal-oriented behavior through reinforcement learning, which fosters instrumental goals like self-preservation; alignment is difficult because these systems optimize for outcomes shaped by feedback, which can be manipulated.
Is AI Impacting Jobs or Not? (The Automation Timeline)
Q: How should individuals prepare for a future where AI is more prevalent in the workplace?
Focus on cultivating transferable skills and the ability to direct and judge AI-driven processes, not just perform specific tasks; think in terms of skills over titles and consider independent or multi-company engagements to diversify opportunities.
Is AI Impacting Jobs or Not? (The Automation Timeline)
Q: What would you say to Sarah about the near-term impact of AI on jobs?
The impact is likely overestimated in the short run; disruption will be gradual, with many roles changing rather than vanishing quickly, and some tasks being automated while others adapt or shift to new kinds of work.
Why AI Ends The Internet
Q: What kind of regulatory framework could safely accommodate AI agents at scale?
A model of regulatory markets could place the government in charge of risk standards while private entities verify compliance. This would involve independent verification organizations and performance-based regulation to ensure safe operation, transparency, and accountability without throttling innovation.
Why AI Ends The Internet
Q: What happens to the traditional price mechanism if AI agents do most of the decision-making?
Prices may no longer be the primary mechanism; AI-driven coordination could use alternative signals and personalized negotiations. This could lead toward a form of market coordination where value is determined through AI-mediated interactions rather than human-set prices, raising questions about stability and fairness.
