Used to be a good show, but it’s gotten to where half the show is Alex doom-whinging every week about the same thing — ugh

  • Good show! Too many live eps lately!!

Love the show!! One request - maybe release the live shows as a couple episodes vs individuals over a few weeks. It’s getting frustrating thinking I’m clicking on a normal episode and it ends up being another live one!

  • Fantastic Podcast With the Exception of…

Alex is incredibly sagacious and well-rounded and delivers exceptional interviews with seamless continuity that keeps you wanting more. My biggest qualm is I wish he would not bring on Ranjan Roy so much. I think that guy has a myopic, aristocratic view on AI. He is a meretricious expert with experience only in academia, void of a real world occupations. It would be nice to replace him with a regular who has a more dynamic background.

  • Great Show, Good Vibes

Consistently great show on tech, especially AI. Alex is dialed in and gets some prime interviews, like Greg Brockman (excellent convo). Mondays with Ranjan are a must watch/listen. Alex does ask people hard questions, he just isn’t a jerk about it. Highly recommend if you’re in the tech world.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Best of Big Technology: How Ozempic Changes Our Bodies, Minds, and Economy — With Johann Hari
Q: What could happen to the economy if millions start using these drugs?
If prices drop and access expands, widespread use could alter consumer demand, affect food markets, and shift healthcare and pharmaceutical economics, with profound macroeconomic implications.
Best of Big Technology: How Ozempic Changes Our Bodies, Minds, and Economy — With Johann Hari
Q: What are the potential risks or downsides of widespread use, especially among kids?
Long-term effects are still uncertain, and there are concerns about mental health impacts, dependence, and the ethics of treating children with powerful metabolic drugs; regulatory and safety considerations are being debated.
Best of Big Technology: How Ozempic Changes Our Bodies, Minds, and Economy — With Johann Hari
Q: So how do Ozempic and similar drugs actually work to curb appetite?
They provide an artificial copy of GLP-1 that stays active much longer, sending 'full' signals to the brain and gut, which dramatically reduces calorie intake for many users.
Nick Bostrom: Worries About AI Existential Risk Just Became More Concrete
Q: Nick, would you say that we've reached AGI at this point, or is that still far off?
We are not yet at AGI; systems are general in some domains but lack full, universal human-like capabilities across all tasks. However, they'd likely become more capable in key areas, suggesting we are approaching a regime where advanced forms of intelligence could emerge, even if not fully AGI yet.
Here's How The AI Bubble Bursts — With Paul Kedrosky
Q: What would cause the music to stop in this massive AI investment cycle?
A combination of macro shifts re-pricing hurdle rates, a pullback from external financing, higher return expectations, geopolitical/regulatory barriers, and a move up-market that reveals the returns aren't there, all of which could dampen enthusiasm and stall funding.
