Intermission is my favorite way to hear about film these days. It has none of the fetid, sinking, and ironic pretension of (some) letterboxd commentary and all of the deep, heartfelt love of film and human connection you’d get from a good conversation with friends. I look forward to a variety of guests and perspectives every week and of course the most pleasant voice in podcasting (seriously). I always leave with something new to think about and I never feel excluded for my tastes. Round of appl... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Boots Riley Talks I LOVE BOOSTERS, Starring Keke Palmer, and Radical Cinema
Q: If you were to pick a movie that describes your life right now, whichever way you want to take that question, what movie comes to mind?
Exterminating Angel, a film where people keep talking and never leave a party, mirrors the ongoing, unfinished process of Riley's career and projects, illustrating that there is never a definitive end point in his work.
Ildikó Enyedi Explores the Human Connection with Plants in her new film, SILENT FRIEND
Q: What about Lea Sedoux do you see that star power?
The guest notes that star power is a mix of presence and vulnerability, and that Sedoux brings a rare combination of strength and warmth, plus humor and talent as a dancer, making her a compelling collaborator for the project.
Ildikó Enyedi Explores the Human Connection with Plants in her new film, SILENT FRIEND
Q: That's beautiful. Is there a performance that comes to mind that influenced how you decided to direct actors?
The guest explains that directing is deeply rooted in forming an alliance with actors; it's about understanding the person first, then aligning on the actor's background, comfort zone, and collaboration with the rest of the crew to foster an environment where actors can explore and surprise themselves.
Nick & Brian from BriTANicK on Great Comedy & Their Films PIZZA MOVIE (feat. Jason Segel) and Over Your Dead Body (feat. Gaten Matarazzo)
Q: How did you transition from sketch comedy to feature filmmaking?
They describe moving from sprint-like, high-speed sketch production to a slower, more deliberate process for movies, emphasizing pacing, character arcs, and collaboration with editors and directors to sustain longer narratives.
Are Films Inherently Political & the Current State of Cinema with Kontinental '25 Director Radu Jude
Q: Can you introduce yourself for the listener of who you are, what you do and the film that we'll be talking about today?
I'm Radu Jude, a Romanian filmmaker. My film Continental 25 (Kontinental) is releasing in the United States, and we spoke about its themes, production, and its place within Romanian cinema.
