It has none of the fetid, sinking, and ironic pretension of (some) letterboxd commentary and all of the deep, heartfelt love of film and human connection you’d get from a good conversation with friends. I look forward to a variety of guests and perspectives every week and of course the most pleasant voice in podcasting (seriously). I always leave with something new to think about and I never feel excluded for my tastes. Round of appl... more

I like to put this on in the background while I draw or do my homework. I always end up with a grin on my face and this giddy feeling I can’t shake off. Good stuff X

Director Nicolas Winding Refn on HER PRIVATE HELL Starring Sophie Thatcher & Charles Melton
Q: Why did you decide to shoot a world that felt artificial and then bring it back to Copenhagen for production?
He describes an intentional move to create an entirely new environment before acknowledging the need to work in a familiar setting to anchor the film's core emotional truth.
Director Nicolas Winding Refn on HER PRIVATE HELL Starring Sophie Thatcher & Charles Melton
Q: How did music influence the atmosphere on set for Her Private Hell, and did it affect the actors or directing approach?
Music served as an inspiratorial drug, guiding performers to access emotion and heighten reality, with the score ultimately chosen to weave together the film's opera-like, elevated texture.
Director Nicolas Winding Refn on HER PRIVATE HELL Starring Sophie Thatcher & Charles Melton
Q: If you were to pick a film that describes where you're at in life right now, what comes to mind?
He referenced a Tom and Jerry cartoon from his childhood to illustrate a sense of returning home after exploring the high life, suggesting a personal longing for grounding even amidst global touring.
Boots Riley Talks I LOVE BOOSTERS, Starring Keke Palmer, and Radical Cinema
Q: If you were to pick a movie that describes your life right now, whichever way you want to take that question, what movie comes to mind?
Exterminating Angel, a film where people keep talking and never leave a party, mirrors the ongoing, unfinished process of Riley's career and projects, illustrating that there is never a definitive end point in his work.
Ildikó Enyedi Explores the Human Connection with Plants in her new film, SILENT FRIEND
Q: What about Lea Sedoux do you see that star power?
The guest notes that star power is a mix of presence and vulnerability, and that Sedoux brings a rare combination of strength and warmth, plus humor and talent as a dancer, making her a compelling collaborator for the project.
