  • #87, - A Mixed Bag

Sound level changes and late coming guest (they go ahead without him!) make episode #87 difficult to listen to. But guest De Palma, when he arrives is, insightful, but could have been so much better. Needs a redo/ re-edit.

#654 - Ildikó Enyedi and Tony Leung on Silent Friend
Q: How did you prepare for the film and work together with your co-star?
Leung details his preparation of neuroscience concepts and visiting universities to study early cognitive development, while Enyedi emphasizes giving him space and trusting the process, allowing his presence to carry the scientific questions with authenticity.
#654 - Ildikó Enyedi and Tony Leung on Silent Friend
Q: How did you conceive the idea for this film, and how did that shape your collaboration?
Enyedi explains the idea emerged from her interest in plants and consciousness, shaping a narrative framed around a neuroscientist, while Leung describes how he approached joining the project after a Zoom meeting and through a mutual respect that developed into a strong collaborative dynamic.
#648 - Pete Ohs, Jeremy O. Harris, and Lena Góra on Erupcja
Q: Did you have in mind a possibility that at the end, Rob and Bethany would end up back together?
The discussion reveals that the end of the script evolved with the production, and the team considered various directions, but the current conversation emphasizes discovery over fixed outcomes rather than a definitive reunion.
#649 - Giulio Bertelli on Agon
Q: What was the practical thinking behind shooting sequences in locations that feel more like studios than arenas, and how did sound influence that choice?
Choosing controlled spaces allowed us to design the acoustic texture and camera movement deliberately, emphasizing room tone and subtle sounds to evoke a documentary-like realism while maintaining the film's conceptual edge.
#649 - Giulio Bertelli on Agon
Q: How did you approach casting and visual language to balance trained athletes and actors, and to achieve a credible yet artistic portrayal?
We sought real athletes for authenticity and trained actors for performance, planned many sequences carefully, and used a mix of accidents and deliberate editing choices to craft a language that feels both credible and expressive, with deliberate tracking shots and a nuanced soundscape.
