  • Patience/friendliness

If Tyler mocked the fans a little less that would be great. I get it, fans can be, well, FANatic, and you get tired of it, but they are also why you can have a podcast. So, show your frustration with them/us a little less. Thanks.

  • The opposite of hard hitting

This podcast is the opposite of hard hitting. They offer fluffy non critical analysis. They did the same when Kelly was the coach. They only got “tough” on Kelly after Kelly left for LSU. Irish Sports Daily and Irish Breakdown and more hard hitting and really tell you how things are.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Football Never Sleeps: Preparing for a big spring for Notre Dame football, recruiting
Q: Who do you expect to be the backup quarterback behind CJ Carr this spring?
Both hosts discuss Teddy Girard as a notable option for the long term, while Noah Grubbs and Blake Hebert are also in the mix, with Hebert likely taking early spring reps before deeper competition develops.
Third & Gold: Trevor Ruhland on the challenges of spring practices at Notre Dame
Q: ND has recruited Nickelbacks out of the portal in previous cycles; how do they identify potential Nickelbacks versus corners to ensure depth and versatility?
The staff has pursued a mix of experienced players and versatile safeties who can cover, with some Nickelback potential coming from safeties and larger defensive backs; they're also open to experimenting with players like Christian Gray at Nickelback during spring.
Third & Gold: Trevor Ruhland on the challenges of spring practices at Notre Dame
Q: During the current time period, is there a limit on the number of hours that can be spent on strength and conditioning and the football concept school?
Yes, during winter workouts, NCAA rules cap structured football activity at 20 hours per week, with additional activities like film study or voluntary gatherings not counting toward that limit.
Third & Gold: Pete Nakos on the transfer portal and NIL markets and how Notre Dame fits in them
Q: What are your thoughts on the number two quarterback competition and its potential impact on spring practice?
The group will likely be evaluated across multiple practices, with Noah Grubbs and Teddy Girard pushing for reps; the focus is on development rather than declaring a starter early.
Third & Gold: Pete Nakos on the transfer portal and NIL markets and how Notre Dame fits in them
Q: With two stars gone, how deep of a rotation do you think Coach Sider will be utilizing?
The rotation is expected to be game-flow dependent, likely three running backs sharing significant time, with a mix of experience and young players rotating in as spring developments unfold.
