So many interesting comments with a lot of nuances. Especially loved the episode on the ladies in Worlds.
I’ve gotten into figure skating really recently (hi, random YouTube Olympics rec) and so far this podcast has been my favourite resource to learn more about the sport.
There’s a mix of competitions recaps, interviews with athletes and coaches, and episodes dedicated to exploring the history of the sport and various socio-political aspects. The last two in particular I really appreciated. It was the exploration of gender episode (ep 5) that sold me on the podcast. The iconic performances episod... more
I probably rather listen to TSL or IceTalk (reluctantly) than these girls where I can just feel my skating IQ dropping with every passing minute, no joke... I’m confused about their expertise and edge calls (try “Flutzes and Waxels” instead for the real educational commentary), as this podcast feels like a few adorable fangirls, none of whom ever stepped on an ice rink EVER before, got together and decided to talk about their favorite skaters with an unapologetic and hilarious biases! LOL
I’ve listened to some episodes, but I don’t see myself coming back to this podcast. They are too biased for my liking and don’t make up for it with technical insight, in my opinion. I do appreciate that they seem to really enjoy each other’s company, so good for them!
I started a recent episode and had to turn it off within the first minute because the voices were getting higher and shakier and unbearably giggly. Some of the episodes are covering interesting and important topics but if the presenters can’t calm down before hitting record, then please make better use of editing. Overall the makers of this podcast could benefit from researching and setting up some baseline best practices including maximum number of people on an episode, limiting the length of e... more
The ladies sometimes talk very fast, sometimes at the same time. It’s hard to listen to... That said, I like the interviews which are calmer and seem to be thought through. Thanks for Kevin!
I’ve been listening to this podcast for over a year now and it really helps me stay up to date with everything about figure skating (let alone keeps me awake on my commute 😂)
I really appreciate all the hard work that the team puts into this passion project! It makes following figure skating more fun and way easier! I love to laugh along and geek out with the rotating crew of hosts!
The hosts are not only knowledgeable about skating, but also ask the hard questions about #metoo, gender dispa... more
I listen to a couple of other ice skating podcasts and this is my third choice if I’m stuck waiting for new episodes to come out from the others. I find that there are sometimes too many voices going back and forth, and it can get chatty. Sometimes different people say the same thing over and over again. I feel that other skating podcasts do a better job balancing the personal chatter with concrete and interesting skating discussion.
Really enjoying this podcast, I especially love the conversations on some of the heavier topics, along with the skating coverage as the season progresses. While the hosts have favorites, as we all do as fans, they are very balanced as a whole, their critiques fair and well-supported
i clicked into this podcast thinking it would be amazing and had very high expectations,,but i just can’t handle these girls. there are better podcasts.
Great episode girls! But I can’t believe you forgot to mention Rachmaninov’s piano concerto no. 2! One of my definitely favourite warhorses. My least favourite, on the other hand, is Claire de lune! Beautiful piece of music but I really could live without seeing it on the ice again.
Cheers and keep up the good work!
Aleksandra
Clearly they have their own favorites. They are not objective whatsoever. It’s apparent they don’t like American skaters. If they expect to have a following, they need to be objective!!! Educate yourself ladies!!!
Weird Hanyu cultists who absolutely hate American skaters so basically they just make up rules based on how their faves should always win even when they make mistakes. I had to unsubscribe and stop listening. They’re just petty haters and sanctimonious elitists. We don’t need more of that.
There are just better figure skating podcasts out there. The reporting here is shoddy and everyone is incredibly biased against certain skaters (for purely personal reasons). You’re entitled to an opinion but try to find some objectivity please.
I give up on this podcast. It is incredibly negative and the opinions are unbalanced. The lack of objectivity is very evident in the way the podcasters seem to diminish and discredit some in order to credit or elevate others. I find it even more worrisome that some listeners will feed off the negativity and perpetuate it, and they won't be able to objectively and/or rightfully recognize skaters for their excellence, hard work and accomplishments.
