  • Slightly frustrating

Great guests, interesting topics - but to the presenter please stop interrupting your guests, let them finish their point. It was very annoying in the Andrew Craig episode - lots of talking over the guests and ruining their flow.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Investing in China, Inflation Expectations & Energy - Revisiting Project Zimbabwe & S&P 10,000 with Erik@YWR
Q: Is it really that extreme, the 8% inflation expectation versus 2.3% forecast, and what are the consequences?
The guests explain that consumer expectations have moved up dramatically, historically leading bond yields; if expectations remain elevated, it can constrain monetary policy and shape pricing power, potentially lifting longer-term yields even as short-term policy remains cautious. This dissonance suggests investors should emphasize real earnings growth and the reaction function of energy and other scarce resources.
Investing Decision Making: The Stock You Bought is Down 20% - Now What?
Q: What should a investor do when a position falls 20% after purchase?
Evaluate whether the investment thesis remains intact, consider averaging down if the fundamentals still look favorable, and avoid knee-jerk reactions unless new adverse information emerges.
The English Are Coming! Investing in the Birth of a New Wine Region
Q: What is the realistic prospect of English wine becoming a globally important player and where is the place for this product?
The speakers argue there is huge potential, driven by climate advantages, a distinct terroir, and a clear path to scale. They emphasize the need for brand-building, international distribution, and premium positioning to bridge the gap with Champagne while leveraging England's heritage and growing consumer interest in fresh, crisp sparklers.
A Buffoonocracy in Need of a Bond Crisis - Investing in the UK as Reported from Mississippi with Douglas Carswell
Q: What lessons do you think Britain could learn from Mississippi?
Mississippi shows that deregulation, low energy costs, and school-choice reforms can spur growth; Britain could adopt targeted deregulation, a restructured tax system, and greater emphasis on efficiency and private-sector experimentation.
A Buffoonocracy in Need of a Bond Crisis - Investing in the UK as Reported from Mississippi with Douglas Carswell
Q: Why might a bond market event be a catalyst for reform, according to your view?
Because bond markets reflect the true cost of government debt; when the math doesn't add up, lenders demand higher yields and pressure for spending cuts, effectively forcing hard reform decisions.
