  • How is this all we have for softball?

Softball coverage isn’t great in general. Cookie cutter interviews with surface level answers that they recite over and over again. “I knew my team had my back.” Nonsense like that is most of every interview in this sport. But In the Circle is among the worst overall.

Their commentary is unintelligent and uninteresting. Their interviews are plain and have zero depth. They take no chance to ask detailed, interesting questions that only the coaches or players they interview could answer. You have... more

  • What are you doing!!

I really want to like this podcast and support you guys because you support college softball but taking half the show to talk about press box size and a weather man! Interview with another broadcaster and asking about how she felt calling games? That’s something you do in season not right after Regionals!! Talk about the teams and the players. Tell us what team had the best batting average, which team won with defense, which players carried the teams! You said nothing about how the games actuall... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Butlers Did It
Q: What attracted you to Oregon and how has the transition been?
Butler described Oregon as a dream school, the supportive environment, strong resources, and welcoming teammates, which contributed to her rapid integration and success.
DeBoer and DSR
Q: What considerations go into evaluating conferences within DSR, and how does that affect teams from less-recognized programs?
DSR evaluates conferences by aggregating non-conference results to determine conference strength, and it gives mid-majors a fair shot by rewarding wins against stronger teams and offering a road-win premium. This helps teams outside power conferences gain ground when they perform well against tougher opponents.
DeBoer and DSR
Q: Can you give an example of how DSR has moved teams in the rankings this week?
Allen cites examples like Arkansas's 6-0 win over Georgia and other notable outcomes that caused point exchanges, highlighting how a single impressive result can move a mid-major or top team up or down, showing the system's sensitivity to meaningful, non-blowout results.
DeBoer and DSR
Q: How does the DSR differ from RPI and KPI, and why should a committee consider adding it to the selection process?
DSR is predictive and looks at the likelihood of beating an average opponent, not just past resume strength. It complements RPI and KPI by adding a forward-looking perspective and helping resolve outliers or ties, especially with conference strength and margins of victory, making it a meaningful supplementary tool for the committee.
Cowgirls and Mavericks
Q: What do you think you need to work on as a team moving forward?
Mike discusses the need to improve offensively while maintaining their pitch and defensive standards.
