  • Love this podcast.

    Hi :)

My name is Jamisa J. and I hope to work with Ryan Coogler one day, God willingly. I love these convos he does with other directors/writers they all feel very light and informative but also supportive. I believe that’s what other creators need within ourselves to show love to other creators because ultimately we need each other to keep growing and expanding this difficult art form. Much love to everyone apart of this podcast.

How SINNERS Built Its Oscar-Winning Score
Q: Hello, Queen Serena. It's Hailee. I have about a million questions I could ask you, but I am curious about this. You have such a calm strength and fierce confidence in your work and in your presence. When you are deep in a project, how do you know when it's finished or when to keep digging?
I don't think it's ever done; you keep digging because the music story can always go deeper and be more specific. The process is ongoing, and the team continually finds new angles, especially given the personal stakes of the project and the evolving understanding of the time period and culture represented.
Behind the Music: How PinkPantheress Produces Hits
Q: What does a music producer do, and how does that differ from other forms of production?
A music producer is the creator who builds the beat, arranges the song, and develops the track as a whole, guiding the sound and structure from concept to finished piece.
FROM THE ARCHIVES: Cord Jefferson and Ryan Coogler on Writing, Directing, AMERICAN FICTION, and SINNERS (sort of)
Q: How did you decide to pursue opportunities and take risks early in your careers?
Both describe taking calculated leaps—Cord leaving a day job for Survivors Remorse and Ryan moving into directing—driven by fear of staying stagnant and the belief that collaboration and mentorship can catalyze a breakthrough.
FROM THE ARCHIVES: Cord Jefferson and Ryan Coogler on Writing, Directing, AMERICAN FICTION, and SINNERS (sort of)
Q: What was your go-to childhood TV show slash film?
Cord says The Simpsons, highlighting how it shaped his sense of humor and family values; Ryan mentions Batman: The Animated Series as his pick, illustrating their early inspirations.
INSIDE PROXIMITY: Meet (and Learn from!) our Nonfiction Team
Q: What are the biggest ethical considerations when contacting a person or community for an interview, especially around trauma?
Meet people where they are, build a safe space, respect their boundaries, and follow intuition about when they're ready to talk, ensuring transparency about our motivations and seeking a liaison within the community to establish credibility.
