  • Informative but can improve further.

The podcast provides a detailed and multidimensional discussion on various topics. My only problem is that the guest speakers use a lot of abbreviations and jargon, which can be hard to comprehend if the listener is not familiar with the topic in depth. A more lucid diction would be helpful.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Trump's tariffs fail in the Supreme Court: How can India recalibrate its trade strategy?
Q: So first, why did Trump use this IEEP Act?
Deborah Elms explains that IEPA was invoked as an emergency power on multiple occasions—first against certain countries and later extended broadly—because it provided a fast, flexible tool to impose tariffs with minimal procedural hurdles, a pattern the guest notes is now being curtailed by the Supreme Court ruling.
Was the SC's move to 'ban' the NCERT textbook an instance of judicial censorship?
Q: What should guide handling of such scholarly criticisms in educational materials?
A careful evaluation by academicians, reliance on complete and correct data, and a preference for remedies short of broad bans, such as revisions or warnings, would better serve both education and the judiciary's integrity.
Was the SC's move to 'ban' the NCERT textbook an instance of judicial censorship?
Q: Does the Supreme Court ban amount to judicial censorship?
The guest acknowledges that while there was justification for taking action, the blanket ban and seizure of all copies could be seen as overreach; a more restrained approach might have balanced contempt concerns with respect for institutional autonomy.
In Focus-Parley | Is India tailing the U.S. in its West Asia policy?
Q: Is India signaling a tilt toward Israel by its recent high-profile engagement with Israeli leadership, and what does this imply for ties with Tehran and the broader region?
They argue that there was a perception of a tilt toward Israel, which complicates India's balance with Iran and other Gulf states; the goal is to maintain a broader, more resilient foreign policy that supports regional stability without alienating key partners.
In Focus-Parley | Is India tailing the U.S. in its West Asia policy?
Q: To what extent does the US influence India's policy towards West Asia, and is India's stance mainly due to external pressure or independent calculations?
The guests suggest that while Washington has a strong influence, India's choices are shaped by a mix of external pressures and independent strategic calculations, including energy security, regional stability, and long-term connectivity goals.
