  • Concise and helpful

In this age of information overload and e newspapers, and the strain on my eyes due to screens all day, I decided to switch to podcasts do get my dose of daily news. I am from Delhi, currently living outside India. So I listen to the New York Times podcast on my way to work and the Indian express one on my way home- thereby trying to stay informed of the key news both in the US and in India. The 3 things are always widely chosen and adequately discussed- keep up the good work! No advertisements ... more

  • Good podcast, but heavily tilted left

I like the podcast’s format and I listen to it almost every day. But I take their political coverage with a big grain of salt since they are unabashedly biased against BJP.

The show hosts and the reporters are heavily opinionated against BJP, but Liz Matthews should get a special call out since she is the most shameless of all.

Listen to the show for updates and not to form your opinions about India’s politics.

  • Facts until opinion’s show up

I was hooked so long as this show gave me news without opinion. Liz Mathew’s dissection of PM’s Independence Day speech was unnecessary and reeked of opinion.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Calls to ban social media for kids, a looming agri crisis, and LIGO in limbo
Q: How are the state-level bans in India envisioned to work, and what are the challenges?
States may set different age thresholds and timelines, but the internet's cross-border nature makes geoblocking and enforcement difficult; a central-level law could simplify compliance for platforms and reduce state-by-state variability.
Calls to ban social media for kids, a looming agri crisis, and LIGO in limbo
Q: What are the main reasons governments are considering restrictions on children's social media use?
The primary concerns are the negative effects on mental health, including anxiety and low self-esteem, as well as exposure to cyberbullying, scams, and explicit content, which drives a regulatory push across different countries.
Iran crisis' impact on oil, India-Canada uranium deal, and unseating Om Birla
Q: Amitabh, for those who might not already know, tell us why is uranium important for us and what makes this deal stand out?
Uranium is the fuel used in nuclear power stations to generate electricity, and India's new agreement with a Canadian company for long-term uranium supply through 2035 is significant because it secures a stable source to support India's planned expansion of its nuclear capacity, reducing dependence on a single supplier and enabling the growth of nuclear energy alongside existing reactors.
LPG crunch hits eateries, SC passive euthanasia order, and a new US refinery
Q: How are restaurants coping with LPG shortages and the shift to electric appliances?
Restaurants are trimming menus, shifting to electric fryers and induction stoves, and some are facing higher costs and staff retention challenges as supply disruptions continue.
LPG crunch hits eateries, SC passive euthanasia order, and a new US refinery
Q: What does passive euthanasia entail and how does it differ from active euthanasia?
Passive euthanasia involves withholding or withdrawing life-sustaining treatments after medical assessment, with safeguards like two boards and family consent, whereas active euthanasia involves a physician administering a lethal dose, which remains illegal in India.
