  • Actually Useful Advice and Lessons Learned

I have notifications on for every episode while I navigate my own startup through the ambiguity of finding product-market fit.

Compared to this podcast, everything else seems to be more garbage than not. This is the highest caliber startup content you can find. It’s genuinely true when they say they skip the talking points to get to the heart of actually how to do this stuff.

I wish there were 1,000 episodes because I would binge that rather than sleep.

  • Always insightful

Brett gets below the surface and uncovers true insights from each guest. I always walk away with new tactics to try, or a new appreciation for functions that i don’t work with as often. It’s a must listen in my rotation

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Why Plaid’s COO cold-calls new hires | Eric Sager (COO of Plaid)
Q: Do you think it's mainly a comms thing where you're just relentlessly landing those messages? So is it just narrative and storytelling and keeping people focused in the way that you communicate?
The approach is both messaging and substantive actions; while communicating clearly helps, the lasting impact comes from consistently aligning leadership behavior, culture, and decision-making with long-term customer and ecosystem goals.
How to build a beloved tech brand | Sheila Joglekar Vashee (CMO, Figma)
Q: How do you balance short-term campaigns with long-term brand building as you scale?
Sheila explains treating marketing as an engine that aligns inputs from growth, product, and brand around a common end goal, while still pursuing moonshots and creative breakthroughs.
How to build a beloved tech brand | Sheila Joglekar Vashee (CMO, Figma)
Q: What's the most important decision you made as CMO last year?
Sheila describes expanding the definition of design to include non-designers and the tensions this created with staying true to the core community, while growing awareness and participation through campaigns like Figma Make.
Why great product leaders should stop obsessing over the roadmap | Diya Jolly (CPO & CTO of Xero)
Q: What is your practical approach to thinking time and decision-making as a senior leader?
Reserve time for deep thinking on high-impact bets, delegate day-to-day execution to trusted lieutenants, and keep tight status updates to stay aligned without micromanaging.
Why great product leaders should stop obsessing over the roadmap | Diya Jolly (CPO & CTO of Xero)
Q: Do you think the CPO role is the same across all companies or highly contextual?
Basics like communicating direction, understanding customers, and allocating bets stay constant, but the process to reach those outcomes varies with founder vs executive leadership.
