新竹市與竹北之間的頭前溪出海口，有一座幾乎被人遺忘的小島「舊港島」。在清代，這裡是竹塹港的所在地，對外貿易的重要出入口；後來港口淤積，機能移轉，島嶼就這樣被留在了原地。島嶼四周被西濱快速道路與河道包圍，島上雖仍有零星的舊建築，卻因位處行水區，整體仍保留著一種空曠的樣貌。
也正是這種空曠，讓舊港島成了一個聲音層次異常豐富的地方。頭前溪的水聲、台灣海峽的浪聲、招潮蟹洞被潮水灌入時發出的啵啵聲... more
過往我們對河川工程的想像，往往是高聳的水泥堤防與筆直的排水渠道，期待以迅速排水換取居住安全。然而，當極端氣候成為常態，這種試圖控制自然、與水爭地的思維正迎來巨大的轉變。
由台灣河溪網協會推動的「第二屆台灣河川希望工程獎」近期揭曉，這是全台首個聚焦於河川復育的獎項。它的誕生，象徵著台灣水利工程正嘗試從傳統「快排」的工程思維，轉向尊重河道的動態平衡，並透過「減法設計」、「還地於河」，讓溪流找回原本的生命力。

在台灣，平均每年有3到4個颱風侵擾。對人類而言，颱風往往意味著災害；但對七家灣溪的河烏來說，這卻是生命節律的一部分。
河烏是山區溪流的指標生物，能潛入激流捕食水棲昆蟲與小型魚類。屏科大野保所助理教授洪孝宇自2004年起在武陵地區的七家灣溪展開調查，20多年來透過繫放與記錄，逐漸拼湊出一幅河烏與溪流生態、颱風之間的複雜關係圖。
