  • Funny and informative

I’m a young GenX-er and don’t want to be on Tik Tok or chronically online. But I do what to know what’s going on! This show helps with that.

  • Cool topics, horrible host

Cool topics, but the host is irritating and will figure out her take on an issue in real time, often missing a very obvious explanation.

  • One-sided & Boring

The lengths the podcast host /guest will go to to defend a celebrity they like makes it unlistenable. It’s like listening to a kid tell you all about their favorite celebrity and they leave out all the parts that makes them look bad.

  • Used to be a fan

But slate is now obsessed with dragging Lindy West as much as possible to cling to relevance and it’s really sad. I didn’t even like her book that much but I don’t think that it’s a good look for slate to be treating her like she’s evil because they don’t think she’s okay with her polyamorous situation. They might be right but I don’t think she deserves what they are doing to her. And slate hasn’t been good since Danny Lavery left anyway.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Secret Marketing Tactic Killing The Internet
Q: How do narrative campaigns differ from clipping, and what are some real-world examples?
Narrative campaigns use fake or dummy accounts to push a particular storyline in comments, threads, and tweets to shape perception, such as portraying a figure as wronged or promoting a specific theory. Examples discussed include campaigns around Justin Baldoni and others where crisis PR teams plotted coordinated online narratives.
The Secret Marketing Tactic Killing The Internet
Q: What exactly is clipping and how does it work across platforms?
Clipping is taking promotional clips of movies, songs, or videos and distributing many short pieces across platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. The sheer volume creates an impression of organic momentum, which platforms then boost, sometimes resulting in real engagement and wider reach.
AI Detectors Won’t Save Us
Q: What example triggers the conversation about AI in literary awards?
The Granta controversy around a prize-winning story allegedly generated by AI, investigated via Pangram and Claude, serves as a focal point for discussing detection limits and institutional responses.
AI Detectors Won’t Save Us
Q: How do the guests view the role of institutions in AI-mediated decision making?
They argue institutions abdicate responsibility by outsourcing judgment to AI tools or external evaluators, which undermines trust in literary awards and editorial standards, calling for human oversight and accountability.
AI Detectors Won’t Save Us
Q: What is the core concern about AI detectors and their reliability?
Ed and Kate express skepticism about AI detectors' accuracy and transparency, noting detectors often lack clear explanations of how they work and warning that even high-accuracy claims may be unreliable without understanding underlying data and methods.
