  • Makes crit care research accessible and entertaining

Recommended this podcast recently by a colleague. As a new consultant balancing work and family I love listening to this on my commute. Intelligent and thoughtful analysis but also really grounded in real life medicine which ultimately is what it’s all about! Thanks for re-igniting my research interest, really appreciate all the work that goes into making this.

  • Fantastic Audio Literature Review

Fantastic podcast overall. I enjoy the witty banter between the two hosts and the light hearted commentary especially the “grading” of the article names. Amidst the lightheartedness, is an amazing and insightful review of key articles in critical care. I enjoy that they’ve started including guest clinicians to discuss the articles and I hope that continues!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

LIVE @ CC Bootcamp 2025: PIC
Q: If conducted in the US, would there have been reasonable equipoise to perform this trial?
Probably not, as there may have been enrollment issues due to lack of equipoise among physicians about treating with steroids.
New: TASC with Benjamin Tillman
Q: Benjamin, why don't you tell us a little bit more about yourself and a hobby that you have that people may not know about you?
Benjamin has been in the medical field for a number of years, completed his clinical training in Mississippi, and enjoys running around with his kids and spending time on a river.
ISICEM Review and SESAR
Q: Todd has said in the podcast that night shift tends to over sedate patients because it's 'night time' and they need to be asleep. In spite of them looking asleep, they aren't establishing a good sleep architecture. How do we establish a sleep architecture? Propofol and fentanyl aren't doing it, then what?
Threads the concept of using dexmedetomidine to restore some sleep architecture despite the fact that it hasn't panned out as well as hoped.
TRAUMOX2, SAHARA, and mailbag
Q: What factors drive you to implement changes from secondary outcomes and subgroup analyses?
I only do it if it's a French subgroup; the weight of the outcome matters a lot. Mortality, recurrence, and patient-centered outcomes are key factors that drive me to change practice based on subgroup analyses.
CCR Down Under: SCREEN with Adam Wright
Q: Is there room for improvement in targeting the right patients?
Yes, although the interaction rate was high, the actual clinical impact of the alert on physician behavior was low, indicating a need for refinement.
