Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Update on new retirement legislation
Q: Aoife, you might give us a little bit more detail into this new employment right and what it will entail once it comes into force later this month, and maybe to begin with, who's eligible to avail of the new right?
The Act creates a right for employees whose contractual retirement age is below 66 to object in writing to retirement before 66, provided they are not already at 66 or above by statute; eligibility requires completion of probation and a contractual retirement age beneath 66, with a specified window for objections.
European Business Priorities: A Conversation with Danny McCoy & Fredrik Persson
Q: How can Europe improve its investment landscape and keep innovation in Europe?
By closing the investment gap with targeted policy support, creating reliable conditions for venture capital, and delivering concrete regulatory reforms that reduce burden while supporting R&D.
European Business Priorities: A Conversation with Danny McCoy & Fredrik Persson
Q: What should European leaders prioritize now?
Focus on concrete actions to boost competitiveness, open new markets, ensure a stable US relationship, and push tangible reforms rather than broad statements.
Courageous Leaders: Dr. Mamobo Ogoro
Q: What was the specific impetus in Irish society that convinced you GORM had to exist?
Ogoro explains that the project was sparked by personal experiences of racism and xenophobia in Ireland, intensified by the 2020 Black Lives Matter conversations, which motivated her to study social psychology and focus on intergroup dialogue to reduce prejudice and improve social cohesion.
Courageous Leaders: Oisín O'Reilly
Q: What does courageous leadership look like when you defend the rights of displaced people, especially when Ireland is framed as full or under strain?
Leadership means acknowledging the real capacity constraints while steering public conversation toward practical solutions, long-term planning, and compassionate policies; business leaders can influence resources and policy by staying engaged and advocating for sustainable, inclusive responses.
